Okay! So there seems to be some controversy over this "Vapor-tight", "El Cheapo" thing, from E-conolight. Hell, I'm thinking about getting a few myself!
The only thing that's stopping me is the ballast. Not that I believe the ballast itself uses 200 watts (that's another whole issue). I'm thinking about the "type" or quality of the ballast - what the hell is a "reactor ballast" anyway? It sounds to me like they've just thrown some bogus shit together that will "eat up" expensive bulbs! Anybody know what a "Reactor Ballast" is, and how does that equate to a "Regular" ballast?
I've got some expensive Eye Hortilux HPS bulbs that are pretty specific about using the right ballast, "For use on S51 Ballast only" is printed on the box. Not sure what that means, not even sure if it's important - but that's what it says! Can someone clear this up?
For some reason, in the back of my mind, I think this might be like burning up real expensive tires on a car where the suspension and alignment are all "out of whack".
So that's my question - What is a "Reactor ballast" - and how, or why, is it any different than an "S51"?
