Pruning with Aerogarden

Hello there

What should i do here.
I have 3 rather big plants in my AG atm, lots of the fan leaves on the biggest are overlapping onto the other smaller 2 all 3 are competing for light.
Now, the AG manual says its essential to prune....but i dont think they assume your growing weed.

Do you guys and girls think cutting back some of the leaves to provide a more even distributation of light is the right thing to do?

Details:
16/8 lighting
Aerogarden Deluxe (3 clf's)
Strand unknown (probably something dogey)

Thankyou in advance
J

Yeah! - Pull the fan leaves if you like. They sap energy and by pulling them, it allows more energy for the good leaves to grow. In nature, plants are pruned by animals, weather, etc. It's a natural part of their life cycle.

fan leaves store the plants food, if they are no longer needed they turn a banana yellow, then and only then you should take the leaves off

Thanks yo
that was a close one
Actually, fan leaves, the BIG leaves, turn light into energy for growth to that part of the plant they attach too. They also use a lot of energy due to their size and I don't want that. Energy is best used producing new growth.

I always remove fan leaves from lower nodes. In the flowering stage I remove ALL big & medium size leaves and strip ALL leaves off the lower 1/3 of the plant. That way, the plant uses all it's energy to grow buds.

Thanks yo

So just chop of the bigger fan leaves?
will it effect the flowering process?

Thanks
J
Yes, on both. Removing fan leaves allows more energy for the production of smaller leaves but, especially top growth = buds. (Fan leaves are the really big leaves.)
You'll also want to crop the top after you get the 4th node unlesss you want a really tall plant. It'll give you 2 colas instead of just one. It'll help the plant spread out as well.
