My first Aerogarden grow

Okay here I go. I got my Aerogarden in last week and my seeds came in this week from Nirvana so I am pretty pumped. I ordered my Papaya seeds from Nirvana and they came in about 10 days. I germed them in a damp paper towel for three days and all seven seeds germenated. I chose the Papaya strain because of the low height and fruity type smell and taste. It also has a short grow time. Or so it says. I put all the germed seeds in the foam cups and placed in the AG last night. Pictures are worthless right now but when the green starts poking up through I will start posting pics. Please feel free to make any suggestions or help me from screwing up. But I have to say that if you don't like Aerogardens and can't help in any way then stay the hell out of it and leave your insults to yourself. I know what you have is better than mine but this is what I have. Well thats it. I'll let you know how stuff is going.

Well here are a few pics from my AG. I know they look like everyone elses but dammit they are mine. All except for one of them are poking up through. I did notice that the temp in there is a little higher than I thought it would be. I need to get a thermometer tomorrow. I am trying to think of a way to cool it off in there without it being obvious. Also my wife will kill me if I cut or drill anymore holes in her closet. Here they are.

good luck on the grow, do you have any air stones? and what about a timer, i think its a figure 8 cord you need to hook it up to the light, and how much extra CFL's are you plannign on adding?

I have a 6" airstone and I do have a timer for when I start flowering. I bought the figure 8 plug at radio shack yesterday. Right now I have just 2 cfl's but I will add more as the plants get taller. I have been just sitting back and reading all of the posts and journals for the AG and learning a ton from everyone. I love how everyone is here to help anyone else and I thank you all for any help or input you can give me and my girls (Hopefully).

There isn't any big changes since my last post but I figured I would post anyway. The seed that wasn't showing finally popped through and is going like hell now. So out of the 7 Nirvana seeds I germinated all seven are growing. I still have 3 back up seeds in case I am a complete idiot and ruin these. Hopefully you guys can keep me from doing that. One question though. I noticed on another thread someone using soil as a medium in an AG. Does that seem like it could clog the pump up if any falls in? What is an easy to get medium that would work good the next time I use the AG? Rockwool I suspect. When should I start on the AG nutes? Thanks and more pics when they start to look different.

use the sponges that it comes with, rockwool wont work efficiently, start the nutes 5 days after germination,

Allright. I waited 9 days to put in 1 starter tablet and within a day I noticed some color changes in the leaves on almost all of the babies. Some are worse than others. I took pictures of a couple to try to figure out if it is nute burn (most likely). Let me know as soon as possible to keep my babies alive. thanks.

Also what is the best setting to use for the watering. The roots are not in the water yet so does it have to be all the time or a lot less.

Dont sweat it man.. Im gonna tell u though my method of the AG nutes.. Dont ass 2 in at a time every 2 weeks.. I added 1 tablet every monday and i would cut it in half. I would put half the tab on the left and the other on the right side. Then the following monday i would do the same thing and wuld put half in the front and half in the back so i would be putting half tablets in the AG in a cross type pattern.. And i would say once a month completely change the rez water out for fresh new water.. Hope this helps man make sure u read it throughly

I had only added 1 tablet and broke it in half and the very next day I noticed the color change in the leaves so I got a little nervous. I'll give it some more time to see if it gets better as the plants get stronger. Hopefully it will get better.

Hey Nozzle! Welcome to the AG club! I would back off on the nutrients to 1/2 or 0 tabs until they get a little taller with more branches. How many have you got going in there? I've heard that 1 - 3 is ideal and that you shouldn't really try for more. Check out my grow if you wanna see what you should have in a few weeks. The AG is fun isn't it?

Hey, thanks alot. I am gonna take a break for a little while on nutes and see if they look better. I checked tonight and they already seem to be improving. I planted all 7 pods just for the male to female ratio hopefully I'll end up with 3 females. If more then I'll use the extra's to clone. I don't want more than 3 going when they get bigger. I wish I had more options for cooling my grow area because I am on a big construction job and have "access" to a 400 watt HPS light with ballast built in and wired for 110v. The funny part is the jobsite is a brand new Federal prison. I should take it just for the irony of it. It would be perfect but I have no way of running any cooling lines in and out. It is in my bedroom closet and my we have a house full of kids and I am lucky I talked my way into what I have going now. Oh well. Thanks for stopping in and helping me out.

Deffinitely nute burn.Ipersonally hate the AG nutes but you gotta work with what you have.Although they do work but you will get those brown spots all throughout your grow with the AG nutes.All you need is a grow,micro,bloom nutes.Something easy.peace

Dude thanks! That explains one of the problems I've been seeing with my grow (little brown spots). I'm in the bloom stage right now. What do you recommend for bloom nutrients? Fox Farm Big Bloom? Thanks!

Hey, no problem man. The more info for everyone the better. The only posts I can't tolerate are the ones that tell me the ag is useless and the weed turns out shitty. I have been watching a lot of grows on here and it seems possible to get descent plants with the AG. I know with HPS it puts out more light for flowering but I have no way to control the temps.
I looked a little while ago at the plants and the brown seems to be going away. They are growing fairly quick now so I am feeling a little better. Keep watching and help me out along the way and I will share any problems I run into to help others avoid them. Later.

LOL. Yeah thees' a lot of AG hate on these boards. I'm not sure why. You'll find that for almost every system though. I saw one thread where this dude kept bashing the other guys BC Growbox. It's most likely due to insecurity. I guess they think that if you don't grow exactly the way they do that their not "validated" that their way is right. Kindda' like some folks and religion I guess. Anyway, that or their just wanting to bully the FNG's because they think it's what a Weed Baron is supposed to do.

Good luck on the grow! I'll definetly be checking back with you. Glad to hear things are better with the nute burn. I went the otherway and almost killed my girl by not giving her any in the beginneing but everything seems to be OK now. Keep it up!

i started my aero garden 7 days ago and added the starter nutes after day 5 of germination a my front row of plants almost look like yours but the back are perfect i thougt possibly nute burn also but i would think all of the plants would be affected. check out my thread.

I have been watching the babies for a couple of days since the nute tab and it seems to be getting better by the day. I was thinking about topping the water off to thin the nutes out a little bit. Yes, No, Maybe? I did notice that the leaves aren't as dark as what I have been seeing on the other journals but it maybe just the strain that it is. I'll put up some pictures tomorrow. Is a 150w HPS a good idea for flowering or do I need more? I can't have too much heat in there and can't go much higher than that. Later.

I say top the water off. That's what I did anyway. I would feed her one tab a week and top off the water as needed. They will start to drink A LOT once they get big so you'll virtually be changing out the tank once a week. If you've got the extra cash I would really think about investing in some good bloom nutrients. I just started with bloom nutrients yesterday so you could watch my grow and make up your mind from there. I think by the time you start to bloom I should be finished or almost done.

Anyway, yeah I would top it off.
