Scrog question

I took a few clones from my first grow and decided to do a scrog. I know that the strain doubles in height during stretch.

Does that mean that I should flip them once the screen is half full?

Probably wait until 75-80 filled for the best results. Make sure you get your screen on early enough that you can actually weave the branches through it and take advantage of the real scrog effect.

I feel like it was early enough. The screen is about 12 inches from the tops of the pots. The plants have just started to poke through the screen but not quite enough to begin tucking them.

I did a fair amount of training before I put the screen in. Now that the tops have hit the screen, I cleaned up quite a bit of undergrowth and shoots that wouldn't ever reach the canooy.

I know how much the stretch is but I'm just unsure of how that correlates under a scrog. I don't want a jungle, just a beautiful canopy. Appreciate the help as always TC!

Sounds like you are off to the right start. Some of the stretch will be mitgated by the weaving. You are gonna keep weaving for the first 7-14 days after you flip the lights to 12/12. This will maximize the screen usage, and prevent the stems from jumping up really huge.

Ok so he said training, does that refer to quad lining prior to weaving. I have never done a screen but am starting a grow currently, 2 weeks from seed currently. So clarify this please, do these 2 techniques go hand in hand or am I just to thick to get it, lol Thank you, not trying to hijack the thread just trying to understand what Torment is doing and get the biggest yield.

Quad lining. Never quite heard to it referred that way but yes, that would be the most ideal way to setup a scrog. Unfortunately, that only works from seed. However, darn near mainlined my clones and they are quite bushy.

The best scrogs(and most proper) actually weave the branches. Not every square of the screen necessarily, you might just tuck some down, while others come up and then get woven back under. The weaving helps the plant build a strong structure right to the screen. Which provides support for the weight of the buds and branches once it gets flowering.

Some people put up a screen and push the branches down and then flip to flower and put up another screen to support the stems. Thats not a scrog, thats just using plant supports. Scrogs are supposed to be using the screen to control the canopy and make it a total screen of buds.

You absolutely can combine different training methods. Utilizing LST, or topping and doing mainlining training can all be worked in conjunction to the screen training. Usually, those would be done early, and then the screen would finish the canopy structuring.

I have put a decent amount of time into trying to research a proper scrog. I have NO desire for it to be simply plant supports. I will not be setting up a 2nd screen because i feel that if the first one is done correctly then it shouldn't be necessary.

Most of the videos I've seen and tutorials that I've read really only start you off with a general idea. "Tuck it underneath once it's tall enough to reach the next square."

The problem I'm realizing is that there are lots of tops, each going to a new square. How do you keep a sense of organization with it? Once you reach a corner or edge do you just bend the branch in a new direction?
Assuming a hefty defoliation will be necessary before I flip?

Generally you try to spread the growth out as evenly as possible as it grows out from the center. If it gets to an edge, just turn it sideways and keep going. You can also choose to top it at an edge so that it pushes the growth in other directions. Ideally if you do well then you should be able to spread it pretty evenly. Most people I’ve seen, and when I’ve done scrogs, don’t really defoliant the canopy. You’ll want to trim out some of the lower growth under the canopy to allow good air flow. But the goal is to have enough canopy around screen level to collect all the light you give it and be able to produce lots of nice medium sized dank buds.

Hey guys. So I’m sorry to re use this thread. I did one outdoor grow this summer and am on my first indoor. I started wi th a 4x4 tent. 4 plants. Kept low stress training topping and have pruned a few times. My plants are super healthy and I have completely filled my screen I was thinking about begging anotjer week or two but after seeing your pics I may have vegged too long ? I have another screen to weave again. Will I come into issues with having too many buds in small areas ? My blue dream is especially monstrous with four to five bud locations in one sections. Included pics Please feel free to give any advice on switching to flower. Thanks in advance. V
PS started a 2x2 tent with a few babies vegging I be ready for the big tent once these girls flower !!! Souped for the switch !!!!

Nice grow!
I flip to flower as soon as I begin to see the 1st signs of pistols coming out of their calyx, which typically means they’re mature enough to flower.
