10 inch fan and a 400w hps? might need more then that bro, whats your grow room space like? closet? an actual room? if its an actual room, you can try buying an oscillationg tower fan... let it run and u can either use the 10inch fan as well or use it has like exhaust type of deal

ah i just actually did that closet grow setup, except 1 door and it dont slide... first time i did it, it was 2 hot as well... 2nd time i tried during flower and it was ok... make sure you got the fan pointing first to the plants... and then from the plants to the crack in the door.... not the other way around... ( crack covered by fan blowing in towards the plant)
so the air can cool plants as well as move the hot air out the crack like an exhaust.... o yea i also switched to oscillating when i tried it 2nd time... first time i did 10inch fan and was too hot as well... that fan dont cost much... $10 at home depot? mayb even walmart

You're gonna have to save up and get an air coolable hood with some 6" inline fans to cool that place down bud

You could always buy new closet doors, replace the original ones with the new ones, and then modify those new doors for proper ventilation too. I don't know if money's an issue or not, but it seems like a good idea to me =).

i have an air coolable hood, just no fan for it....how much can i pick one up for?
Check out Ebay, you can find some really good deals on there. HTG supply is good as well, they have a store on Ebay as well as their own website. If you need ducting just search Ebay for the specific size for the fan. So for example if it's a 6" fan you want 6" ducting, and would search 6" ducting.

Hope this helps you out, happy growing :bigjoint:!

You don't HAVE to get a 6" inline fan, that was just an example. There are other sizes as well, the three most common being 4, 6, and 8".

Yo just wondering if your closet is rug floor? If so maybe pull up the edge and see whats under. Wood or concrete is cooler than rug and that might help get it down a little. If its wood just cut along the very edges and cut the piece out. Wrap it up neatly somewhere and when it comes time to move out, set it back in and staple the edges. If you're careful it will look just fine. Also, not sure what typical weather is like in your area. But maybe do something to make your room cooler. Like getting white reflective blinds to get the sun out. Or leaving the window open if there is a breeze and the weather is cooler outside. Or just a bigger fan for the room.

Main question i think is maybe you should drop down to Compact Flourescent lighting (CFL). Depending on how many plants you are doing maybe you only need a 200 or 300 watts of CFL and they are much cooler. Plus saves electricity. I'm not positive but i think you can flower fine with them. The 400watt HID is really hot. And unless you keep the main air room cool it will be hard to keep a closet cool. Hopefully you don't have any cloths in it! Just checking. Good luck.

I almost gave up, had the same prob I have an apartment and a 2x7 closet, it took a lot of hard work I had to rebuild my grow room over and over again till it was usable, my temps started at 105!!! they are now maintaining about 82, i will still prob have problems in the summer but i'll have to get some bigger fans. anywaycheck my sig to see my journal, I made a homemade cool tube for about 20 bucks, and also bathroom ventilation fans are only about 12 bucks at home depot or lowes and you can attach 4'' duct to it with metal tape and exhaust your hot air out of your closet with that tube. i have pics of everyting i did in my journal on my sig. good luck!

Temperature issues are the toughest to eliminate. I have one of those grow tent closet deals 3x4x6 sitting inside an 8x5x8 furnace room (yes setting it up in a space just wider and taller than itself was a bitch). It was getting up to like 105 in there and I couldn't bring it down no matter what I tried. I used exhaust fans, inline fans, box fans and nothing would get it below 95. I ended up cutting a hole in the roof of the tent and sticking a box fan in it to pull the heat from the top then putting an oscillating fan at the top of my canopy to blow the heat off the top of the plants and out the top through the box fan.

You could probably do a similar idea in your pice range with some crafty mylar/anda film work. I am thinking sliding doors like the kind you can only have on side of the closet open at a time. Mount a box fan at the top of the closet but far enough back so that the doors can slide shut in front of it. place mylar or panda/poly film below it to reflect the light also on the inside of the closet so the door can still slide shut in front of it. Mount your other fan at about canopy level on the back wall behind the shut doors opposite the side the box fan is on. Leave the box fan side of the closet open at all times to aerate then when you need to access the plants you can slide the doors in front of the fan to access your grow on the other side.

See crudely drawn attachment for example.

get the cool light type. On the boxes they usually show what color the light is most like. the bluer the better for veg. Then i would suggest getting at least 5 of the largest wattage, like 27watt each is good.
