So basically, some official in Wuhan expanded diagnostic definitions and stopped excluding some deaths where comorobidities were blamed and it caused a huge spike in numbers. Then he was dissappeared and his immediate replacement told the WHO that there was a mistake and the statistics went back down. The international organizations and the United States CDC have been offering help but the CCP is still not accepting any aid. There is absolutely no reason to believe the numbers being reported regarding this outbreak in the People's Republic of China. The guy who told the world about SARS in 2003 was chemically lobotomized. Here goes anyway, despite the vast coverup by the Communist Party of China.

Should Canada stop all flights and arrivals from China and surrounding areas? I’m not sure but my thoughts are it can’t be stopped but can we slow the spread and hopefully get a vaccine. Most of what I’ve read says travel bans are ineffective but it seems logical that containment is a good thing. The Carnival Cruise lines out of Florida have banned Canadian resident passengers holding Chinese passports even if they have not traveled to China in 6 months, seems that is based on race not risk?

I'm extremely interested in seeing what the stats will look like from an outbreak in a place with more transparent tracking. Apparently this virus mostly spares children.

That's fucking terrifying. The Lancet published an r0 of 3.8 and a geometric doubling every 6.4 days. Los Alamos is one of the most advanced research centers in the world. I would trust their reseach but they can't possibly be tracking actual spread stats. It must be a model. Only the People's Republic of China has actual spread stats and they're turning down international help just to keep their weapon a secret.

5th case in BC from women returning last week from Shanghai. Canadian officials say the chance of transmission extremely low for others on flight.....ok. Maybe a travel ban is a good thing.

We are just going to have to wait for the next outbreak (almost certainly already started somewhere) to incubate and see if the government wherever it happens operates with greater transparency. That's the only way we can see some real data. PRC still won't inform the world about SARS from 2003 with any honesty. Enjoy the ride and buena suerte.

“Ok so we maybe shouldn’t have a level 4 lab next to a food market” fuck me!!!! When I was a kid I was told never to touch a bat due to the disease carried by the little fuckers. That was 50 fucking years ago ffs. Can’t imagine making bat stew. Now it’s in Africa, that won’t bode well I’m thinking.

Basically yes. That's what many governments are doing. Even the Philippines is doing that and Do Dirty is Pooh's boy. He is basically a member of the CCP for all intents and purposes and even he has banned PRC travelers. Taiwanese authorities have gone as far as to suggest the entire world quarantine mainland China off.

1,770 fatalities

Note that test kits are on short supply and diagnostic criteria is stringent. Many fatalities are not included if other conditions underly, even when coronavirus is confirmed present. Therefore most epidemiologists dispute World Health Organization stats curated by the Communist Party of China. Models suggest an outbreak up to ten times greater. The outbreak in China won't peak until April and it is unknown if any other outbreak will spread as fast or faster. The quarantined cruise ship seems to be a tragic but interesting case.

The couple in Ontario are still testing positive for the virus after now being healthy for two weeks with no longer being symptomatic.
