Obama: Longer school day?

OK, so the PTO sent me an e-mail talking about Obama's and McCain's stand on educational topics. I really have no idea who I'm voting for. It's going to depends on their stand in education and gun control (I'm all for having my guns). So here is something from Obama's thoughts on education (high school drop-out/acheivement rate):

Obama would address the achievement gap by giving states $200 million in grants to provide longer school days and additional learning time for students in need.

Longer school days? WTH? They are in school 7 hours a day, 5 days a week. Does anyone have any idea what he considers longer school days? I do know that if we get longer school days I'm homeschooling like I planned on doing. At the moment public school is pretty much a babysitter for me. I still do teaching at home.

If those are your two important issues.. Obama would be a big NO for you I'd assume after you did research.. Obama is all for tighter gun control and is known to have said that he doesn't believe anyone should be able to own handguns.

As far as education, Obama is all for more government indoctrination, along with mandatory military service after high school. (I wish I was making this crap up, seriously, look it up) He also is against homeschooling and parents rights over where their children attend school..

Seriously start doing some research.. make an informed decision..

I don't personally like McCain, and will vote for neither- but Obama is bad news on the education and gun front..

One of his aides filled out a survey by a special interest group back when he was a state senator that said he was for a ban on handguns, but he has never said that this was something he supported. He's supported gun control in inner cities, but he's said over and over that non-criminal gun owners have nothing to fear from him. He's not against homeschooling, WTF are you talking about? And the mandatory military service is BS too. You're probably thinking about his plan to tie certain scholarship money to national service, whether that is civilian or military.

Seriously start doing some research.. make an informed decision..
It'd be nice if you took your own advice.

Uh oh.. I insulted the MESSIAH.. ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK... lol.. I don't care to think for other people- he can look up my claims himself, as can you- though I can see you won't- Obama surely has said things to the effect that I stated. Sorry if you refuse to see it.

What about these small town schools with prinicpals that run students out? That's what happens where I live. If you aren't a jock the principal harasses until you quit. I homeschooled my daughter after the principal pulled that shit on my son. She has a GED now, she scored higher than 80% of GRADUATING seniors. That's right with a homeschool education and she didn't have to worry about being searched a couple of times a week.

Before any discussion happens about longer school days, we need to first see why so many kids are dropping out.

Obama lovers know nothing but attack! Its time to pay attention. Its important! Obama said in 2006 that our Constitution is deeply flawed while speaking about the Warren Court. He also said the Constiturion Is a Chater of Negative Rights and the courts should impose Income Redistribution! Thats all from his mouth! WTF! If thats the attitude we could lose everything. Our counyry has become the richest, the most productive, the most giving, the most powerful and a group of the smartest in the world with all the inventions and equipment for good that has come out of the USA. Its because of our Costitution and Bill of Rights that give us freedoms and rights to use our minds and be happy like no other group of people on earth! The new President is going to get to pick a couple new Supreme Court Justices. Last gun vote was close because of the Liberals on the court. Why do we need a President that talks crap about our constitution and thinks its flawed? I Dont like it so I have to vote McCain/Palin and hope they can stimulate the economy and try to change our government for the positive!

You just pull a bunch of lies about Obama out of thin air, what do you expect me to do? And that was more of a DEFEND DEFEND DEFEND as in, I was defending Obama from all that ridiculous shit you said about him, not attacking anybody.

Wow the problem with most research is your reading shit that was wrong to begin with... Obama has had no negative efforts to change the laws that are in place to keep the guns out of the hands of criminals and children.... Mcain has the same view.. There is alot of MISINFORMATION and this is a forum so it will be filled with opinion not fact.... give you sites when you give your info. And wtf are you gonna do anyway vote for who you want and let the electorial college provide the winner!!... On the views of education.. The president cant set president and change the schools overnight it has to go to the state and local levels then vote on a change... dam people blah blah blah hitler wtf... your a racist or fascist... how can you say hes worse when they killed thousands or hundreds of thousands and all he's done is run for president.... I would STFU and read a book or watch the news...

better yet stair at your plants for hours since you have no common ground to stand on.

not attacking just give AN OPINION

I looked into the thing about lengthening school days. As much as I like Obama, I have to admit that it's true. He does want to increase the length of school days, since in the US, school days are shorter than in most other developed nations. However, he wants to do it by establishing a source of funding for schools that want to have longer school days, NOT by mandating that schools have longer hours.

To be honest, I'm not sure I like some of Obama's education programs. Like a lot of education programs, they focus way more on the lowest achievers than the highest ones. Gearing classes for students who have the most trouble comprehending them does a terrible disservice to the kids with the most potential. NCLB is especially bad in this capacity. Still, McCain doesn't seem to have any new ideas at all regarding education, and it'd probably be really low priority if he were to win.

I'm pulling this from Obama's website.

Expand Use of Drug Courts

Obama and Biden will give first-time, non-violent offenders a chance to serve their sentence, where appropriate, in the type of drug rehabilitation programs that have proven to work better than a prison term in changing bad behavior.
Expand Hate Crimes Statutes

Obama and Biden will strengthen federal hate crimes legislation, expand hate crimes protection by passing the Matthew Shepard Act, and reinvigorate enforcement at the Department of Justice's Criminal Section.
Soon, you wont be able to spit on the sidewalk with out it being a hate crime.

End Deceptive Voting Practices

Obama will sign into law his legislation that establishes harsh penalties for those who have engaged in voter fraud and provides voters who have been misinformed with accurate and full information so they can vote.
Maybe he should talk to ACORN.

Rebuild the Military for 21st Century Tasks: As we rebuild our armed forces, we must not simply recreate the military of the Cold War era. Obama and Biden believe that we must build up our special operations forces, civil affairs, information operations, and other units and capabilities that remain in chronic short supply; invest in foreign language training, cultural awareness, and human intelligence and other needed counterinsurgency and stabilization skill sets; and create a more robust capacity to train, equip, and advise foreign security forces, so that local allies are better prepared to confront mutual threats.
Aight, "Would you like some tea, Mr. Ahmed Mojahidden?"

Give me a break....

Ensure Freedom of Space: An Obama-Biden administration will restore American leadership on space issues, seeking a worldwide ban on weapons that interfere with military and commercial satellites. He will thoroughly assess possible threats to U.S. space assets and the best options, military and diplomatic, for countering them, establishing contingency plans to ensure that U.S. forces can maintain or duplicate access to information from space assets and accelerating programs to harden U.S. satellites against attack.
Want to discourage the use of ASAT weapons? Make sure you have more, and can destroy the enemies Satellite capabilities more thoroughly than they can destroy yours.

Mutually Assured Destruction did more to ensure that there wasn't a Nuclear War, by ensuring that there would not be a winner than any of those stupid SALT treaties.

Zero to Five Plan: The Obama-Biden comprehensive "Zero to Five" plan will provide critical support to young children and their parents. Unlike other early childhood education plans, the Obama-Biden plan places key emphasis at early care and education for infants, which is essential for children to be ready to enter kindergarten. Obama and Biden will create Early Learning Challenge Grants to promote state "zero to five" efforts and help states move toward voluntary, universal pre-school.
And when the hell are Children going to be allowed to be Children?

Expand High-Quality Afterschool Opportunities: Obama and Biden will double funding for the main federal support for afterschool programs, the 21st Century Learning Centers program, to serve one million more children.
Great, just what we need, more stupid sports programs.

Create the American Opportunity Tax Credit: Obama and Biden will make college affordable for all Americans by creating a new American Opportunity Tax Credit. This universal and fully refundable credit will ensure that the first $4,000 of a college education is completely free for most Americans, and will cover two-thirds the cost of tuition at the average public college or university and make community college tuition completely free for most students. Recipients of the credit will be required to conduct 100 hours of community service.
Read, if you are a young person just going out on their own and trying to go to school while not being able to afford it out of pocket you are FUCKED! Because this is not going to do a damn thing for you, because it requires you to pay up front out of your own pocket.

Hold 21st Century Fireside Chats: Obama will bring democracy and policy directly to the people by requiring his Cabinet officials to have periodic national broadband townhall meetings to discuss issues before their agencies.
If that doesn't prove he's another flaky FDR type socialist I don't know what does.

Release Presidential Records: Obama and Biden will nullify the Bush attempts to make the timely release of presidential records more difficult.
Well seeing as how if he's elected his Birth Certificate will be a Presidential Record, why doesn't he start by releasing that?

Illinois Reform: In 1998, Obama joined forces with former U.S. Sen. Paul Simon (D-IL) to pass the toughest campaign finance law in Illinois history. The legislation banned the personal use of campaign money by Illinois legislators and banned most gifts from lobbyists. Before the law was passed, one organization ranked Illinois worst among 50 states for its campaign finance regulations.
Great, another person that wants to go after the symptoms instead of the problem, and in the process bans free speech.

Expand Paid Sick Days: Half of all private sector workers have no paid sick days and the problem is worse for employees in low-paying jobs, where less than a quarter receive any paid sick days. Barack Obama and Joe Biden will require that employers provide seven paid sick days per year.
Vive la France

Give me a break...

Expand the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA): The FMLA covers only certain employees of employers with 50 or more employees. Barack Obama and Joe Biden will expand the FMLA to cover businesses with 25 or more employees. Barack Obama and Joe Biden will expand the FMLA to cover more purposes as well, including allowing workers to take leave for elder care needs; allowing parents up to 24 hours of leave each year to participate in their children's academic activities at school; allowing leave to be taken for purposes of caring for individuals who reside in their home for 6 months or more; and expanding FMLA to cover leave for employees to address domestic violence and sexual assault.
More interference with private contracts... how absurd...

Expand the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit: The Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit provides too little relief to families that struggle to afford child care expenses. Barack Obama and Joe Biden will reform the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit by making it refundable and allowing low-income families to receive up to a 50 percent credit for their child care expenses.
Read, "If you don't have dependents, FUCK YOU!"

Talk to our Foes and Friends: Obama and Biden are willing to meet with the leaders of all nations, friend and foe. They will do the careful preparation necessary, but will signal that America is ready to come to the table, and that he is willing to lead. And if America is willing to come to the table, the world will be more willing to rally behind American leadership to deal with challenges like terrorism, and Iran and North Korea's nuclear programs.
Flakier than FDR, I don't recall FDR meeting with Hitler or the Emperor of Japan during World War II, because they were our enemies or foes.

Fight Global Poverty: Obama and Biden will embrace the Millennium Development Goal of cutting extreme poverty around the world in half by 2015, and they will double our foreign assistance to $50 billion to achieve that goal. They will help the world's weakest states to build healthy and educated communities, reduce poverty, develop markets, and generate wealth.
So that's what he wants the Iraq War money for, that lying bastard.

Ensure a Strong U.S.-Israel Partnership: Barack Obama and Joe Biden strongly support the U.S.-Israel relationship, believe that our first and incontrovertible commitment in the Middle East must be to the security of Israel, America's strongest ally in the Middle East. They support this closeness, stating that that the United States would never distance itself from Israel.
Then why did he have such a difficult time answering the question about what he would do if Iran threatened Israel?

Fight Poverty: Obama and Joe Biden will double our annual investment in foreign assistance from $25 billion in 2008 to $50 billion by the end of his first term and make the Millennium Development Goals, which aim to cut extreme poverty in half by 2015, America's goals. They will fully fund debt cancellation for Heavily Indebted Poor Countries in order to provide sustainable debt relief and invest at least $50 billion by 2013 for the global fight against HIV/AIDS, including our fair share of the Global Fund.
God, they like repeating themselves, provides filler so it looks like they have substance, despite having a policy that is like a McDonald's Hamburger, all Filler, no meat.

Advance Opportunity from the Bottom-up: Obama and Biden will substantially increase our aid to the Americas and embrace the Millennium Development Goal of cutting extreme poverty around the world in half by 2015, and they will double our foreign assistance to $50 billion to achieve that goal.
By screwing over the middle class.

Work with Mexico

Obama and Biden believe we need to do more to promote economic development in Mexico to decrease illegal immigration.
Does that mean we'll violate their sovereignty, too?

How about we focus on just securing our borders, because then the Mexican people will have to fix their own problems in Mexico.

Expand the Earned Income Tax Credit: Obama and Biden will increase the number of working parents eligible for EITC benefits, increase the benefits available to parents who support their children through child support payments, increase benefits for families with three or more children, and reduce the EITC marriage penalty, which hurts low-income families.
Read, "If you don't have dependents, FUCK YOU!"

Raise the Minimum Wage to $9.50 an Hour by 2011: Barack Obama and Joe Biden believe that people who work full time should not live in poverty. Even though the minimum wage will rise to $7.25 an hour by 2009, the minimum wage's real purchasing power will still be below what it was in 1968. As president, Obama will further raise the minimum wage to $9.50 an hour by 2011, index it to inflation and increase the Earned Income Tax Credit to make sure that full-time workers can earn a living wage that allows them to raise their families and pay for basic needs such as food, transportation, and housing - things so many people take for granted.
Do these flakes not understand that prices are just going to go up for everything in proportion to minimum wage?

Prevent Anticompetitive Behavior Against Family Farms: Obama is a strong supporter of a packer ban. When meatpackers own livestock they can manipulate prices and discriminate against independent farmers. Obama and Biden will strengthen anti-monopoly laws and strengthen producer protections to ensure independent farmers have fair access to markets, control over their production decisions, and transparency in prices.
Why do they want to interfere in the markets so much?

Encourage Young People to Become Farmers: Obama and Biden will establish a new program to identify and train the next generation of farmers. They will also provide tax incentives to make it easier for new farmers to afford their first farm.
How about loan guarantees, or low interest loans? Why should we pay them to become farmers? Why not just make it easier?

Partner with Landowners to Conserve Private Lands: Obama and Biden will increase incentives for farmers and private landowners to conduct sustainable agriculture and protect wetlands, grasslands, and forests.
Read, "We are going to trample all over your property rights."

Support Small Business Development: Obama and Biden will provide capital for farmers to create value-added enterprises, like cooperative marketing initiatives and farmer-owned processing plants. They also will establish a small business and micro-enterprise initiative for rural America.
Just don't become too big, because then they will want to tax the shit out of you.

Combat Methamphetamine: Methamphetamine use has increased 156 percent nationwide since 1996. Obama has a long record of fighting the meth epidemic. As President, he and Joe Biden will continue the fight to rid our communities of meth and offer support to help addicts heal.
Well, he hates Meth...

Expand Corporation for National and Community Service: Obama and Biden will expand AmeriCorps from 75,000 slots today to 250,000 and they will focus this expansion on addressing the great challenges facing the nation. They will establish a Classroom Corps to help teachers and students, with a priority placed on underserved schools; a Health Corps to improve public health outreach; a Clean Energy Corps to conduct weatherization and renewable energy projects; a Veterans Corps to assist veterans at hospitals, nursing homes and homeless shelters; and a Homeland Security Corps to help communities plan, prepare for and respond to emergencies.
WTF? Great, just what we need, an Army of Communists in Positions of Authority...

You know Hitler did the same thing with his NAZI Youth groups.

Expand Service-Learning in Our Nation's Schools: Obama and Biden will set a goal that all middle and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year. They will develop national guidelines for service- learning and will give schools better tools both to develop programs and to document student experience. Green Job Corps: Obama and Biden will create an energy-focused youth jobs program to provide disadvantaged youth with service opportunities weatherizing buildings and getting practical experience in fast-growing career fields.
WTF? School is for learning, not for doing stupid shit. Why not get the criminals out there and do that shit? They aren't doing all that much in prison.

Require 100 Hours of Service in College: Obama and Biden will establish a new American Opportunity Tax Credit that is worth $4,000 a year in exchange for 100 hours of public service a year.
Why do I feel like I am repeating myself incessantly by going over this website...

God, all filler, no substance...

Social Entrepreneurship Agency for Nonprofits: Barack Obama and Joe Biden will a create an agency within the Corporation for National and Community Service dedicated to building the capacity and effectiveness of the nonprofit sector.
Does that mean you'll start taxing them, too?

I mean, there's a NPO that lost $1 Billion in the AIG collapse.

Bill Gates gave, what was it, $20 Billion or more to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Instead of letting these NPOs hoard the wealth of this nation and hide it like it's being stuffed under a mattress, why not tax it?

Protect Social Security

Obama and Biden are committed to ensuring Social Security is solvent and viable for the American people, now and in the future. Obama and Biden will be honest with the American people about the long-term solvency of Social Security and the ways we can address the shortfall. Obama and Biden will protect Social Security benefits for current and future beneficiaries alike. And they do not believe it is necessary or fair to hardworking seniors to raise the retirement age. Obama and Biden are strongly opposed to privatizing Social Security. As part of a bipartisan plan that would be phased in over many years, they will ask those making over $250,000 to contribute a bit more to Social Security to keep it sound.
Obama does not support uncapping the full payroll tax of 12.4 percent rate. Instead, he and Joe Biden are considering plans that would ask those making over $250,000 to pay in the range of 2 to 4 percent more in total (combined employer and employee).
Oh, just put a damn bullet in its head already, please!

Reform Corporate Bankruptcy Laws to Protect Workers and Retirees: Current bankruptcy laws protect banks before workers. Obama and Biden will protect pensions by putting promises to workers higher on the list of debts that companies cannot shed; ensuring that the bankruptcy courts do not demand more sacrifice from workers than executives; telling companies that they cannot issue executive bonuses while cutting worker pensions; increasing the amount of unpaid wages and benefits workers can claim in court; and limiting the circumstances under which retiree benefits can be reduced.
I'm sure the unions love this one... nevermind that they are part of the reason US Manufacturing is slowly vanishing.

Create Automatic Workplace Pensions: The Obama-Biden retirement security plan will automatically enroll workers in a workplace pension plan. Under their plan, employers who do not currently offer a retirement plan, will be required to enroll their employees in a direct-deposit IRA account that is compatible to existing direct-deposit payroll systems. Employees may opt-out if they choose. Experts estimate that this program will increase the savings participation rate for low and middle-income workers from its current 15 percent level to around 80 percent.
What if those people want that money in their pocket where they can use it with out worrying about your inflationary reforms destroying its value?

Expand Retirement Savings Incentives for Working Families: Obama and Biden will ensure savings incentives are fair to all workers by creating a generous savings match for low and middle-income Americans. Their plan will match 50 percent of the first $1,000 of savings for families that earn less than $75,000. The savings match will be automatically deposited into designated personal accounts. Over 80 percent of these savings incentives will go to new savers.
WTF?

Obama’s Comprehensive Tax Policy Plan for America will: DESTROY THE ECONOMY

Oh... wait, that last part wasn't on the web page, my bad....

Obama’s plan will cut taxes overall, reducing revenues to below the levels that prevailed under Ronald Reagan (less than 18.2 percent of GDP). The Obama tax plan is a net tax cut – his tax relief for middle class families is larger than the revenue raised by his tax changes for families over $250,000. Coupled with his commitment to cut unnecessary spending, Obama will pay for this tax relief while bringing down the budget deficit.
I hate how Politicians use Percentages to lie by obfuscation. Why don't they come out and say that the new federal receipts (18.2% of the GDP) will be 14 Trillion * .182 = 2.548 Trillion dollars?

What the hell does the government need with 2.548 Trillion Dollars?

Create a White House Office on Urban Policy: Obama and Biden will create a White House Office of Urban Policy to develop a strategy for metropolitan America and to ensure that all federal dollars targeted to urban areas are effectively spent on the highest-impact programs. The Director of Urban Policy will report directly to the president and coordinate all federal urban programs.
Another one?

I thought that's what HUD was for (Housing and Urban Development)
Fully Fund the Community Development Block Grant: In the long run, regions are only as strong as their people and neighborhoods. The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program is an important program that provides housing and creating jobs primarily for low- and moderate-income people and places. Barack Obama has fought against Bush Administration cuts to the CDBG program and, as president, he will restore funding for the CDBG program.
Yeah, I think that's why people are moving to other communities...

lower taxes, more opportunity...

No, I don't think trying to rebuild dead communities is going to solve the problem, because the problem is that a lot of people have left.

Doesn't matter how good looking the buildings are if no one uses them.

Enhance Workforce Training: Obama and Biden will make long-term investments in education, language training, and workforce development so that Americans can leverage our strengths – our ingenuity and entrepreneurialism – to create new high-wage jobs and prosper in a global economy. A critical part of this process is ensuring that we reauthorize the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and ensure that it strengthens federal investments needed for success in the 21st Century.
Yeah, I'm sure that'll do absofuckinglutely nothing since all our jobs are going overseas.

We need to attract the jobs here, first.

Create a National Network of Public-Private Business Incubators: Barack Obama and Joe Biden will support entrepreneurship and spur job growth by creating a national network of public-private business incubators, which facilitate the critical work of entrepreneurs in creating start-up companies. They will invest $250 million per year to increase the number and size of incubators in urban communities throughout the country.
Which is absolutely fucking jack shit compared to the $25 Billion they want to send overseas!

Bravo... they are screwing us over and pretending not be doing so at the same time.

Lower People's Interest Payments by Creating a New Mortgage Interest Tax Credit: Many middle class Americans do not receive the existing mortgage interest tax deduction because they do not itemize their taxes. Obama and Biden will ensure that middle-class Americans get the financial assistance they need to purchase or keep their own home by creating a 10 percent universal mortgage credit that gives tax relief to 10 million Americans who have a home mortgage.
Read, if you rent, you're screwed out of this one, no tax breaks for you.
Foster Healthy Communities: How a community is designed – including the layout of its roads, buildings and parks – has a huge impact on the health of its residents. For instance, nearly one-third of Americans live in neighborhoods without sidewalks and less than half of our country's children have a playground within walking distance of their homes. Barack Obama introduced the Healthy Places Act to help local governments assess the health impact of new policies and projects, like highways or shopping centers.
I think stupid zoning laws are more to blame on why communities die. No one wants to commute for hours, and thus they'll move closer to where the jobs are.

Support Local Law Enforcement: Barack Obama and Joe Biden are committed to fully funding the COPS program to put 50,000 police officers on the street and help address police brutality and accountability issues in local communities. Obama and Biden also supports efforts to encourage young people to enter the law enforcement profession, so that our local police departments are not understaffed because of a dearth of qualified applicants.
Great, more pigs...

In New Mexico the APD Cruisers have written on them, "In step with the community,"

The standing joke is ,"Does that mean they are dope dealers, too?"

Address Gun Violence in Cities: As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn't have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.
Ahh yes, the ban on scary looking weapons. Lol...

Cap Outlandish Interest Rates on Payday Loans and Improve Disclosure: In the wake of reports that some service members were paying 800 percent interest on payday loans, the U.S. Congress took bipartisan action to limit interest rates charged to service members to 36 percent. Barack Obama and Joe Biden believe that we must extend this protection to all Americans, because predatory lending continues to be a major problem for low and middle income families alike.
Interfering with the markets...

Payday Loans aren't supposed to be something you leave outstanding, you're supposed to use them in the event of an extreme emergency... though smarter would be to get a credit card.

But there was demand and the market filled it, stop fucking with the markets.

Encourage Responsible Lending Institutions to Make Small Consumer Loans: Some mainstream, responsible lending institutions are beginning to enter the short-term lending market to provide many Americans with fair alternatives to predatory lending institutions. Barack Obama and Joe Biden will work with his Secretary of Treasury and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation to encourage banks, credit unions and Community Development Financial Institutions to provide affordable short-term and small dollar loans – and to drive the sharks out of business.
I think more useful would be to teach people about their credit rating, and encourage people to make sure that they have a good one, because for the most part, when you have a good credit rating banks will extend you unsecured signature loans.

I think this part is a good plan. It's not just about children learning, it's about teaching parents to be good parents. My daughter works with kids and some of them don't get baths, or their hair brushed, they aren't dressed for the weather. The list goes on and on. We need some porgrams to teach good parenting skills. Anyone is allowed to have a kid, but not all kids are taken care of when it comes to the basics. Before you get all offended wondering why you should care about other peoples kids, I'll go ahead and explain it. Do you think the kid that had parents with good parenting skills is less likely to rob, beat and kill you as the kid who's parents had no parenting skills?

There are a lot of things I don't agree with where Obama is concerned, but there are a lot of things I do agree with. He is better than McCain in my book.

Alternative Fuels: John McCain believes alcohol-based fuels hold great promise as both an alternative to gasoline and as a means of expanding consumers' choices. Some choices such as ethanol are on the market right now. The second generation of alcohol-based fuels like cellulosic ethanol, which won't compete with food crops, are showing great potential. Unfortunately, today isolationist tariffs and wasteful special interest subsidies are not moving us toward an energy solution. We need to level the playing field and eliminate mandates, subsidies, tariffs and price supports that focus exclusively on corn-based ethanol and prevent the development of market-based solutions which would provide us with better options for our fuel needs.
If the information regarding the usage of hemp oil is correct then the best alternative would be Hemp Oil, something that is missing from this proposal.

CAFE Standards: John McCain has long supported CAFE standards - the mileage requirements that automobile manufacturers' cars must meet. Some carmakers ignore these standards, pay a small financial penalty, and add it to the price of their cars. John McCain believes that the penalties for not following these standards must be effective enough to compel carmakers to produce fuel-efficient vehicles.
Because, you, shouldn't be allowed to have a choice in what you drive...

how asinine...

American Homes: Homeowners can save hundreds or even thousands of dollars a year with better light bulbs, appliances, windows, and insulation. As Americans retro-fit to improve energy efficiency and reduce their carbon footprint, jobs will flow to the U.S. providers of insulation, windows, appliances, and other sources of energy efficiency.
Sounds like we are going to be forced to use Mercury Containing CFLs which are going to cause a larger problem than what they fix.

Smoking: John McCain will promote the availability of smoking cessation programs. Most smokers would love to quit but find it hard to do so. Working with businesses and insurance companies to promote availability, we can improve lives and reduce associated chronic diseases through smoking cessation programs.
Attacking Cigarette Smokers and Pot Smokers alike, another, don't fuck, drink, think, have sex, have fun, exercise your personal liberties policy.
Brought to you by, McCain/Palin...

Making the Tax Subsidy Fair: By making the tax code more equitable and transparent, John McCain will give every family a refundable tax credit - cash towards insurance - of $5,000 (Individuals receive $2,500). Every family in America, regardless of the source of their insurance or how much they make will get the same help. Families will be able to stay with their current plan, or choose the insurance provider that suits them best and have the money sent directly to the insurance provider.
What happen to his proposal for 2 tax brackets?

Lower Barriers to Trade
John McCain believes that globalization is an opportunity for American workers today and in the future. Ninety-five percent of the world's customers lie outside our borders, and we need to be at the table when the rules for access to those markets are written. To do so, the U.S. should engage in multilateral, regional and bilateral efforts to reduce barriers to trade, level the global playing field and build effective enforcement of global trading rules.
Great, except that this will not do a damn thing in the near term to stop the giant sucking sound as American Jobs go overseas (though I didn't see anything in Obama's plan that accomplished that either.)

The new mortgage would be an FHA-guaranteed fixed-rate mortgage at terms manageable for the homeowner. The direct cost of this plan would be roughly $300 billion because the purchase of mortgages would relieve homeowners of “negative equity” in some homes. Funds provided by Congress in recent financial market stabilization bill can be used for this purpose; indeed by stabilizing mortgages it will likely be possible to avoid some purposes previously assumed needed in that bill.
I'm only slightly annoyed with this, cause it still seems like my tax dollars are being wasted helping people that made stupid decisions.

Establish a user-friendly system employing a limited set of secure documents that contain biometric data and are electronically verifiable to check a worker’s identity.
Uh... what? How much information does the government need on us?

How is this going to do anything anyway?

I mean, right now most employers pull up credit reports for background checks, why not let them have more access to the information and encourage them to look at address information, too?

It'd make it a lot harder for people to use falsified documentation if employers were required to check the information presented against that contained in the credit reports.

And to verify the name presented against the name in a secure database.

A McCain Administration will strengthen the process of screening both individuals and cargo before they enter our ports and airports. We need to know who and what is entering our country and where they are destined. This task must be accomplished by utilizing the appropriate mix of dedicated manpower, state-of-the-art technology, reliable information analysis, and sturdy physical barriers. For cargo, a comprehensive, layered and risk based supply chain security strategy is needed. That includes not only deployment of sophisticated detection equipment at our ports and points of entry, but cooperation with foreign authorities at ports of origin and transshipment. For people, the importance of effective screening was demonstrated in the cases of Raed Mansour al-Banna, who was stopped from entering the country by U.S. Customs and Border Protection at Chicago O’Hare airport. After he was denied entry into the U.S., he served as a suicide bomber for Al Qaeda in Iraq, killing 132 innocent Iraqis. Another example is the case of Ahmed Ressam, who was stopped by Customs agents trying to enter the country with explosives to team up with other Al Qaeda operatives to bomb Los Angeles International airport.
This is already put into the realm of the states by the Constitution, which states that the States have the ability to impose duties and fees that would cover the cost of any inspection. We don't need the federal government doing this, we need the states to get off their asses to do this.

Other than that, I can't really find anything as far to the left as Obama.

Maybe some one more biased against McCain can...

Nobody in government will ever admit that marijuana is good for anything. Too many businesses are paying them to keep pot illegal.

CFL's are a great invention, you can grow weed in a closet with them.

So what, we'll need fingerprints, blood sample, maybe pap smear to prove who we are? If it's not the right identity, are the illegals going to be deported?

Doesn't matter who wins, they won't come through on even half of their promises and they will turn around and do half of the things they said they'll never do. It's all lies to attain what they desire.

Thanks brutaltruth for the research and its a wierd problem our country is having with the way politics are being played.. I say played because ive seen some off the wall shit on tv for both sides that makes me wonder who is working for these men.. I do know that alot of other nations are pissed with america and the philosophy of the people in our government.. That doesnt mean they hate all americans. Unfortunatly our voice and our vote isnt really being heard and thats a dam shame.. the number one priority is the economy and what ever branches of life the economy touches energy, the planet, finance and security. But its really not or shouldnt be the only priority we have... Other things like our International Relations have a major impact on our economy and no one seems to care or thats how I view it IMO...... strenghten our alliances with other countries, stop the general violence and implement stratigic talks with diplomacy and get vagina pictures from mcain of palin and i think we can move forward... I dont honestly think alot of americans care who is president as long as the citizens come first and we move forward and not backward into the future..

I'm not saying that CFLs shouldn't be used, I'm saying we shouldn't be forced to use them unless we want to.

No problem, though I think it's all in vain, no matter who wins, we're screwed.
