I'm doing a long outdoor grow with 4 months of veg, how many times should I have topped my plant in that time for best results?

As long as the plant is healthy & given proper time to recover you could do it several times . Outdoors there wont be as much need to do it more than once or twice imo with a 4 month veg you are already going to have monster plants
