Building my growroom.

100% of the air from the tent that has been filtered once gets filtered again by the filter in the trash can. This guys biggest worry is smell and it has always been one of mine as well even though its legal here i dont want my house smelling like theres a dozen rotting skunks in it.

I get that, I think the specific question is why not just go:

tent >== [filter1]==[fan1]===[filter2]==[fan2]===>

I know ive seen it explained before the purpose of a small chamber or trashcan i just dont remember the specifics.

Its acting as a lung if I understand correctly. The scrubbed tent exhaust dumps into the trash can, before its exhausted a 2nd time by the next fan/filter running at a higher speed. I guess you are asking why not just hook up the 2nd fan/filter inline to the first and skip the trash can? Im not 100% sure either but Im guessing its more effective and helps keep negative pressure by doing that way?
Yes its all about negative pressure. The trash can filter dumps into another part of the house. So there is negative pressure in the grow room, negative pressure in the tent, negative pressure in the trash can. I was running 3 filters last year and this setup is working MUCH better with just two.

You can do it that way but for me i need to exhaust my heat from the tent. If heat was no issue then yes i would be pulling air through a filter in the tent and pushing it through a filter outside of the tent. But my grow room would hover around 150 degrees if i didnt exhaust the air.

This is the finished setup. The trash can vents to the basement. My 1000w double ended setup puts out crazy heat it has to be exhausted.

first of all, anyone living in a legal state maybe you shouldn't be giving advice to someone whose top priority is not getting caught.

yes, he could have more grow space without the box. did he ever say he wanted more grow space? no.
hes said over and over that his #1 concern is smell. this trashcan double filter above might work just as well as his setup, but frankly it takes up lot of space itself.

OP, just do your thing. thanks for sharing your work and experience. sorry for all the know-it-alls who think everyone has to do shit the same exact way they do.

welcome to RIU. subbed.

Doesnt take up nearly as much space as building entire rooms inside of rooms! Once upon a time not long ago it was illegal here. Discretion is also an absolute top priority of mine because to me it doesnt matter what the law says, it will always seem illegal to me and I will treat it as such. My point is the same things could have been achieved so much cheaper and easier.

your solution looks simple, smart and effective. and i thank you for sharing it.
his solution looks like it could be very professional and elegant and also effective if we give him a chance. like hes said. its not done. overkill? maybe. but if he stays out of jail then its worth it.

all i'm saying is there is more than one way to skin a cat and something being cheap and easy doesn't necessarily make it best.

Yeah I hear ya. Honestly regardless of how much effort he puts into discretion, the thing that puts him in jail will be a nark. People get in trouble and then they get all their friends in trouble to get out of it and then they get all their friends in trouble to get out of it and the cycle never ends.

100% true. trust no one.

No one on here wants to see him get caught, and multiple people have brought up the fact that his current setup will be a problem if he needs to tear it down quickly.

Anyone who comes on here asking questions should be prepared for suggestions of what they could do better. Without question anything im trying to do someone else on here has already learned the hard way and can suggest a better way to do whatever I have in mind.

I also asked 2 specific security related questions, that he still hasnt answered.

Is it normal to go to this type of rented garage on a daily basis or will the frequency of your visits draw unwanted attention?

Is the amount of electricity you will be drawing going to cause concern, or do you have your own meter?

Those 2 issues were the basic things that I would be more concerned about than smell, and were the roadblock to me ever trying to grow in a rented space like that.

Thank you very much sir!

It is very normal, people uses their garages every day. I will use only 1200w of hps at the flowering stage. It is not that much. And when my lights go off, the electric heater will pop on, which is larger than 1,2kw, most of people are heating their garages over 2kw of power so its pretty normal. Also this kind of wiring will level the power usage data, hiding the 12/12 lights.

He is building rooms inside of rooms inside of rooms so that he can filter, re filter, and re re filter the air.... you dont need an entire room to do that a trash can works just fine. Its a lot like a multi stage water purifier...water goes through a filter.....then another filter....then another filter.....then another filter.....then another filter...........................
I was asking what in particular the trash can itself was doing. I realize the objective is to filter air.

Ultimately I answered my own question.... the filters are better at pulling air through them rather than pushing air through them.

so the trash can allows the air to come into it then the through the filter, through the fan and then onto the room.

I don't think this applies to the op, but it might be worthwhile to point out that spray foam is a no no in grow rooms. It can break down over time due to the lights and stick to buds. Nobody wants that :(
