Plants don't absorb CO2 through the roots.

If you don't know how to use it, you shouldn't. And those home made things are not worht using. Get your basics down, then start to add the extras like CO2. If you feel as though you must use it, get a CO2 system for like $150 and a tank for $100. Get yourself a couple of times and you're all set up.

But I can tell you this, an experienced grower with a 400watt light and no CO2 will out yeild somebody who has no idea what they are doing, has a 1000watt light and is using CO2. You just can't buy experience.

If you're not willing to spend the $250, then its not going to be worth it. You have to turn off your exhaust in order to use CO2, this is going to cause your grow space to heat up quite fast. The home made CO2 stuff won't generate enough CO2 before the temps reach an unacceptable level. So now you are running at 90degrees, which is fine with CO2, but you don't have enough CO2 in there and so the plants actually suffer.

Like I said before, get the basics down. Dial in everything else in your grow space, temp, humidity, pH, etc. Once you are pulling like 2/3 gram per watt, then start adding some CO2, or experimenting with things. You need to know what the basics are before you can move on to the more advanced techniques. Just think about trying to learn algebra if you can't even add. This is what is going on. You need to learn to walk before you can run.
