Living soil nutrient burn?

Hey all!

So I'm about 1 month from transplant into my second living soil mix which is basically the coots recipe. I top dressed last week with what I now think was a pretty heft top dress of homemade worm castings, neem seed meal, kelp, alfalfa and malted barley powder.

About 4-5 days later my leaves started show show signs of yellowing around the outer leaf margins and tips of the top leaves of the secondary branches.

I have 3 plants; shishkaberry front right, critical kush back left and space cookies back right. It has just recently started happening on the kush but the other two started a few days earlier.

Anyone have any idea what this could be or if I should worry about it. I want to resolve it before switching to flower.

Any help or experience would be appreciated!

Shit man. I think you're probably dead on. I'm new to K deficiency, but have been seeing similar issues with my no-till. Thank god for people like you and @Renfro. You guys just made my life a lot easier, lol. I will be giving them more K now, starting tonight when I water. I was first thinking it was P deficiency, haha, shows how good I am at diagnosing nute issues. I will be getting some Sul-Po-Mag soon, but until then I will use the Earth Juice Meta K I have already. Thanks again guys, you're awesome.

Be careful on the sulpomag, it could also be from too much magnesium. This is taken from a website:

What is the K:Mg Ratio?

The K to Mg ratio is taking the base saturation of potassium and dividing it by the base saturation of magnesium.

Eg: A soil test with 4.5% K and 18%Mg means 4.5/18 = 0.25. This means the ratio is 0.25.

What does it indicate?

The K/Mg ratio can be indicative of how available the potassium and magnesium are in the soil. If for example your ratio is less than 0.25, it typically indicates that the magnesium in the soil is over powering the potassium in the soil making it harder for the plants root system to uptake potassium. If the ratio is <0.35 it can indicate that the plant may have trouble accessing magnesium. There are other factors to consider, such as how the other cations play into this as well, but we will talk about that another time!

Good info. Too much Mg locks out K, and too much K locks out Mg. I can actually use that knowledge right now, lol. That makes a lot of sense, and it will definitely help me diagnosis nute issues in the future. Thanks man.

Shoot for a ratio of 0.40 to 0.67. From what I gather is a lower ratio for clay up to 0.67 for max on well drained like what we'd use for a mix. To note this ratio isn't based off of percentages it's on meq of each as has it's own formula for each.

Easily correctable ... Kelp or kelp meal .
A good “ seaweed “ amendment ( kelp me kelp you , Dr. Earth Seaweed solution , bio weed , recharge and others ) check label.
Dry nute “ scratched “ into top soil ( kelp meal ) like Down to Earth brand - good stuff. Matter of fact a scoop added to your container grow bumps flowering nicely. I plan to run it my layered mix of FFOF / EB Stone ( in the upper half EB stone ) as the top fill. I usually water kelp in at flower ( week 2/3 to start ) to cover the PK issue up front and once a week during mid / late flower for “ boost “ instead of synth Beastie Bloom or similar.

I have a mixed kelp into my soil at 1/2 cup per cubic foot. I'm using acadian sealpants kelp and I'm gonna try and mix up a kelp tea and do a foliar and drench. Hopefully it clears up. I wanna flip these bitches to flower soon. Its gonna turn into a forest in that tent if I leave it too much longer lol.

I'll brew for 2 days then apply and make sure to post my results if it works or not!

Looking pretty fair/awsome. It is unfortunate you have come across a deficiency. Hopefully it can be corrected within a week or so!

Plants looking really happy after the kelp tea but symptoms continue to get worse

Just an update for anyone else having this problem in a similar situation.

It has been 10 days since my last post and the problem of the yellow leaf tips on new growth still continues, although it seems to be getting slightly better.

Besides that the plants look really healthy are growing vigorously! They are on day 8 of flower and I'm hoping for the best.

I will continue to post updates every week or so.

Albinism or known as ( variegated leaf ) ... pigment banding , stripes , mottling.
Common at times ... genetic mutation.

Carry on with grow.

Quick update. Things are looking fine. I'm pretty sure it was just some light burn. It's my first run with some hlg 288 v2 quantum boards and I raised them up to about 24 inches above the canopy and running each board @ 140 watts.
