Don’t ever buy a 36” tall tent

Between the light hanger and the ratchet hanger the light was originally 6 inches from the plant tops max. Strung some wire up and had the light at the roof. Was getting hot as fuck so I tore it all down and put the plants back where they were.... waste of money. Enough floor space for my autos while doing other things but not enough height.

I wouldn't say a complete waste of money, but their use is rather limited. I have my aerocloner in a 2x2x3'. I have a large CFL in there for a bit of warmth and light.

When I pop new seeds in dirt, I put those pots in the cloner tent until a day after the seeds break the surface (then they go into veg). When I put rooted clones into dirt, I keep them in the clone tent as well, because in my perpetual, as soon as I plant clones, I harvest plants out of flower, move plants from veg to flower, then the new planted clones from clone tent to veg.

It works really well for these tasks. I can understand that heat would be a huge issue with trying to run a full grow, as would height.

I wasn’t too worried with height. I’ve broken a 5 foot OG kush tree down to 2 foot before breaking the branch into a v shape and it grew a knuckle and flowered great. Just didn’t realize there’d be zero room for a fan and filter. No way to really grow anything in there and get the humidity out effectively or anyone know a way?

I just stuff a fan much like this one in one of the vent ports. I just let the sleeve hang a bit (the fan is in the outside-of-tent sleeve, hanging downwards. I tighten up the draw string just enough to keep the fan from falling out. The fan's weight keeps it stable). I don't have any filter or anything, it just blows hot air out, and brings cool air in through the passive intake.

My fan is not an AC Infinity. It's extremely similar, but got a couple of them at my local grow shop a few years ago for $12 each, back when I lived in Calgary.

Do you have a fan blowing over your light? I stuck a mars hydro ts1000 in there and the reflector got quite hot considering it was touching the tent wall.

No, I don't. I've just got a large CFL in there. I can't even remember the wattage. Picked that up at a grow shop as well, specifically for the purpose it's being used in.

Put the fan and filter outside the tent?

How so? I’ve never understood how that’s done. My go to is filter to fan inside tent to duct work running to hole in roof. That’s about the only setup I know but I’ve heard there are others. Care to share any help for my dad? My stuff is ducted out good. He can’t drill holes in a rental home roof or anything. There’s a fireplace in his room he doesn’t use. Maybe he could block the fireplace area with cardboard and make a hole for duct work and the air run up through the chimney??

If the chimney works proper for it yes that works. Have the fan sucking air out of the tent, from the top air vent. the fan on the outside of the tent. mAYbe resting on top of the canvas if it’s not too heavy. Then attach the tubing to the a cardboard cuttout sealed over the fireplace.

This config is what I run.

8" exhaust fan
CLOUDLINE T8, Quiet Inline Duct Fan System with Temperature and ...

for 2 4x4 tents.
VIVOSUN Grow Tents | Pictures, Specs, and Opinions

6" duct from the tents to a 6x8 adapter on the fan. Fan straight up the chimney.
The wind is always blowing so the draft takes the heat and Oder away and no one is the wiser.
Similar to this.

Ambient temps are naturally 68 to 70, constant depending lights on or off.
Set up for vertical growing there are 2 x 315 CMH per tent.
Canopy temps inside the tents stay around 83 to 86.
A tad high but I cope with it.

This setup nets aboutapound every 2 months. Could do better by tweaking different methods but I'm good with what
is setup now.

To have your fan/filter outside of the tent, you just need to reverse the airflow through the filter.

Put an open end of duct through the vent hole in the tent. On the outside of the tent, connect the duct to the fan's input side (so that the fan is blowing out the side with no duct on it). Connect your filter to the open side of the fan (the output side).

Essentially, you're now sucking air from the tent, and blowing it through the filter, instead of the fan sucking air through the filter and blowing it out of the tent.

I've heard that the fan won't run as efficiently this way, but I've not looked into those claims. I do however know several people who operate this way in grow rooms large and small for varying reasons. Either way, pretty well a moot point, because in a 2x3x3' tent, you don't need the fan operating at full blast anyhow.

Using that technique also allows you to exhaust two small tents with a single fan using a ducting "Y" splitter, as opposed to just a single tent, if you were so inclined.

I have grown both ways and can not tell that there is any appreciable difference in "push" or "pull" configurations.
There may be a minute difference, however the the hobby grower will not be able to tell the difference and it wont significantly change the
growing conditions of the plants.

Will pushing create the same negative pressure ie no smells as pulling? Thanks for the help guys. Definitely no room for the fan in the tent for dad but if we can put it in top and duct out via cardboard taped to the chimney with a hole cut for size for duct work, that should work great. Thanks everyone.

push or pull your fan will be extracting air from the tent.

The tent pressure will be lower as the fan will still be forcing air out while pulling fresh air in thru passive intake no matter the placement of the fan or filter.

Trying to make a stealth in a fireplace. I have an older massive 8 inch duct fan and carbon can that wont fit my new area. Down sizing from what I did successfully years ago. Can't use a tent as landlord sometimes needs access to apartment but the fire place cover works perfect and gives enough room.
How is smell venting up a three story chimney with no carbon filter. Does it linger outside around the house or does it dissipate pretty well after exiting the top of the chimney?
If carbon filter is not needed I'm thinking of sealing a peace of plywood in the flu with A PC fan or two just to assist with slight negative pressure so smell doesn't leak into the room.
