I don't normally grow in winter, but thought I'd give it a go indoors this year, which means I'm looking to replace the shitty Viparspectra's that I mistakenly bought a couple of years ago (yeah, yeah, like a lot of others, I got sucked-in by the hype...
).
Given it's winter, I've been looking at 600W HPS with a dimmable digital ballast, which I know will cover the 4 x 4 (2m) tent I have available. However, my question is around the heat generated.
Would it be enough to keep the temperature inside the tent where it needs to be in its own? Too much?
If it's too much, I've got a 6" extractor fan with a carbon filter & speed controller that I can plug into an STC-1000 thermostat controller. If not enough, I could use a supplementary tower fan heater (also controlled by the same STC unit). Set the desired temperature & let the STC turn on either the heater or the extractor fan.
So how much heat do these things actually produce? Please don't say 600W, I already know that! I'm just wondering about the heating capacity of the light in the cubic volume.
Hopefully, I'm on the right track, 'just never done this before & hoping someone with a similar setup could shed some light (pardon the obvious pun!) on the subject.
Anything I'm missing? I know there are lot of other variables, 'just wondering if I'm on the right track.
