Too hot, change to LED ?

hi,

i have little experience and have not heard about quantum board leds, are the good.. Do you use them?

Quantum board LED's is basicly the newest and most efficient led for growing. They use white leds that make a sunlight spectrum, and produces much higher yields/watt than purple LED's.
I think grams/watt is up to about 2g/w for QB led. Im pretty sure HPS is around 0.8g/w. They might be a little expensive, but you save a lot of electricity in the long run. They also produce healthier plants because of the lightspectrum, and they produce very little heat! Im rn running a 100w spiderfarmer sf1000 in 2x2 space.

Try migro on youtube, he tests all the latest lights worth testing.

Price it up against air cooling your lights.
Normally that's the cheapest option because most folks can just swap to air cooled reflectors, bit different with your lights, been the design they are.

Im not tying to sway you away from LED, I flower all my plants with LED these days.
But just want you to be aware of all options.

Im a big fan of LED, but they are not magic and still create heat, you shave off 1/3rd of your power consumption and heat with LED, you can shave off similar heat with good aircooled hoods on the HPS. Doesn't save you any electricity and the airflow has to be set up right for it to be of benefit.

Yep, sounds good. Samsungs grow LED's like lm301b and lm301h should be some of the best led's out right now. Brandname? How big is your grow space?
For example: A spiderfarmer SF4000 400w QB can flower a 5x5 space, and is equal to a 800w HID

No brand, i found some diy kit for 300$
my grow space is 4x2 meter but i guess only 2x2 efficient due to low roof

Don't believe everything you read, no way can you flower a 5x5 properly with 456w of sf4000

30w per square foot is what you need.
50 with hps.
Realitically your 400w hps shouldn't be used on a bigger footprint than 3x3ft
If you want to swap then any of the 260w kits will be a good replacement, but be better rearranging space to 2x4ft per kit. Since they are oblong

Yep, you’re right. It would veg a 5x5, and Flower a 4x4 much better

Before you go any further...are you aware that if you DIY LED lights for that amount of space that it’s going to cost you close at least $2700? If you go with ready to hang lights you’ll be looking at anywhere from $3,000 - $5,000.

It's pretty difficult to DIY it for less than $1/watt if you go with quality components. You can maybe get it down to about $0.75/watt if you sacrificed a little on heatsink and frame material but most of the money spent goes toward the LED strips/boards and the drivers.

Some people have reported issues with the soldering on their boards, some have reported poor customer service, and others will tell you they are the same as name brand and that the customer service is fantastic, so I honestly have no idea. Just keep in mind that the savings aren't as great as they seem when you have to pay $75 in shipping.

I don't normally use led mate, always hid thought id give the led a try, not doing to bad but will definitely go back to hid for flowering

I only used leds I’m pretty sure the others work or people won’t even use them. I do know it doesn’t take many to watts for these Samsungs to do their thing, 220 watts in maybe 3.5x3.5 or more.. got another on the way to fill up the 9x4

I just built a light with 4 qb120's, powered by an HLG 320H-C2800A. Max wattage on these boards is 70 a piece, so 280 watts total. Boards were $99, driver $81.70, wire, $8, plug end $4, crimp connectors $1, frame lumber was $5, nails $1, hanger was $2.50. So $203.20 for everything. I'm at $.72/watt. Not bad for quality components and paying retail.
