Just ordered a Cool Cab!

First let me start by saying I know some of you will say save your money and build your own. But the reality is I don't have the time or desire to build my own nor do I have the room for a true grow room.

With that out of the way I am very excited on my purchase. I looked at other similar products and read Chiceh's grow journals and I'm satisfied with this decision.

I ordered some feminized PPP, Snow White and Supergirl from Nirvana. I can't wait to get this show on the road. :peace:

Good luck with the Cool Cab. I am going to make some more modifications and then do another grow in mine soon. I had the fem PPP from Nirvana too, good stuff. I do recommend getting some clear nutes though to prevent the clogged lines. I use DNF or Optimum. Keep us posted. bongsmilie:peace::mrgreen:

I would have to be one of the people that disagrees with your purchase, generally speaking at least.

For you, that might make sense. If you don't have the time or desire to build your own cab, then so be it. If you feel comfortable ordering one, I'm sure as hell not going to stop you.

But you can get a cab for literally half or one quarter the price if you make it yourself, and it isn't hard. You just take one of those cabinets from Home Depot or Lowes for $100, put it together, add a light, a fan, and a filter, and your done! All and all, can be done for about $200 if your cheap, or $500 if you would like to go a little better.

To each their own though. I hope you get what you were expecting out of the cool cab.

Hey thanks for the advice Chiceh. I'm looking into Optimum. Hopefully they will ship to me.

Yeah I know I just don't want to deal with it. I liked Chiceh's results so will see.

Congratulations on your purchase!

I'm looking at one of these myself or maybe the mini-cab. The fact that it is a turn-key system is very attractive. I also need a lockable metal cabinet for security reasons. People will tell you you can save money by building it yourself, but they're invariably leaving out the cost of the tools and the value of your own time. If you add up the cost of all the individual items included in this system--complete 400W, two bulb digital lighting system, fully integrated cooling system, hydroponic system, cloning chamber, carbon filter, all the meters, nutes, ph testing and adjustment, etc--add on 25% for their manufacturing costs and profit margin, it's very difficult to convince me that I could make one myself for that price, let alone half that price.

Of course, if someone is offering, I would happily pay one of my RIU brothers 1/2 the cost of the cool cab ($999+shipping) for an equivalent system. Specs can be found here. Payment due on approval, of course.

Come on all you Mr Fixits! This might be a nice little side-line for you!

Congrats! I'm one of the folks who made my own cab based on a Cool Cab. If you search around here you'll find a great little thread of Cool Cab owners and some of the little tweaks and mods that they have made to their cabs. Good luck!

I agree. I just didn't want to deal with all that stuff. You can go to the grocery and shop for all your ingredients to make dinner or just go out to eat.

When I said you could do it for half or a quarter of the price, I was including all of the hydroponic systems, nutes, meters, 400w system, carbon filter, ect. I have a system very similar to the ones they sell, and it only cost me about $500 or so to get, not the $2,000 + shipping they sell it for. Mine is also lined with FatMat, a sound reducing material, an S&P fan (much better than the ones they sell), & darkroom louvers. All of which they don't offer. Not to mention the DIY carbon filter and hydro system inside and 400w switchable. Oh yeah, and I have those TotLocks (the hidden magnetic ones, god I love those).

Of course the cost of the tools is an issue. Personally I did everything with a drill ($25), a package of drill bits ($20), and a cheap hand saw ($15), all of which I get to keep and use on future projects. So all and all, I guess it cost me about $560. If you want to add the time it takes you to do it all, well if 8 hours of your life is worth more than $1,400 plus shipping, yeah then it would make sense for you to order it. Other than that, it really doesn't make sense.

Of course, to each their own. I have nothing against everyone buying cabs, it just makes so much more sense to build them. For both financial reasons, as well as the fact that you can build it custom to what YOU need, not what someone else thinks you need.

That again means that you need experience to know what you need, so if you are a noob, and can afford to shell out $2,000 for a cab then go for it. Then, and only then, does it make sense to me.

Of course, if someone is offering, I would happily pay one of my RIU brothers 1/2 the cost of the cool cab ($999+shipping) for an equivalent system. Specs can be found here. Payment due on approval, of course.

Haha. Are you serious? Payment due on approval? Yeah, right. Like I'm going to shell out $500-$600 in parts, custom ordered all for you, to your specs, so that you can receive it in the mail, then say you don't approve? That makes sense.

Plus, I don't know about everyone else, but my cab is VERY heavy. It would cost an arm and a leg to ship it, even if I broke it down into it's components. But then you would probably complain that you had to put it together .... Even though all you would need is a screwdriver.

lol! Makes mores sense to me than sending a check for a grand to some guy I met on a pot-growing forum and then waiting impatiently by the mail box for my turn-key professional grade grow box to arrive.

Seriously, it sounds like you have a kick-ass system. Congrats.

Thanks for the compliment. And I understand that you wouldn't be overly excited about sending a check to some guy for $1,000 waiting for a cab, but why should I spend money in the hopes that you like it?

If that's the case, then spend twice as much on a cool cab. I don't really care, I'm just saying that I'm not willing to get screwed over doing you a favor.

I purchased a mini cool cab and built one almost identical to it after.

After buying the box, mylar, cool tube, bulbs, ballest, air pump, water pump, nutes, ph meter, ppm meter, reservoir, hydroton, tools/tape, duct fans, ducting, grow cubes, ultrasonic fogger, custom drip setup, Flora Nova grow/bloow, Kaboom, bushmaster, PH UP & DOWN, more fans, etc.. Not to mention doing to electrical ballest work etc bye myself. Which couldve been wrong and ruined it (no directions).

Long story short i saved around $350 building it myself over buying it. Overall it took me tops 4 hours to build, but i did have to cool-cab to help me lay everything out. If i had the choice to do it all over again, i would just buy another mini cool cab. Although that will never happen b/c sunlight sheds customer service is horrid. They could've had another potential $2,000.00 from me but they never called me back. Oh well their loss.

First picture is the grow box i built. 2nd picture are the 2 side by side.

I went all out and built my own, two actually. Would rather have a grow room but just isn't in the cards right now.

Building the second was no doubt easier than the first, but if you have the money and don't have the tools or time or skill, by all means just buy it. I have paid for convenience many times before and will do so many times again.

I can say that I feel a bit more accomplished than I would have otherwise, but when you are smoking your own shit it sure as hell won't matter.

I assure you that SomeGuy accepts all checks, money orders and cash... :) LMAO

to the OP... seriously good luck with your cabinet. I personally built mine as I wanted it uber quiet. I have one for flower and one for mom/clone. Total of about 1000$ into them both. I love cabinet growing for stealth etc... Have fun with it! :)

Don't mean to derail the thread, but someguy, what did you use for your soundproofing and how did you muffle the exhaust noise?
Well.. I used a plastic cabinet. In the tops I built a chamber surrounding the centrifugal fan and carbon filter. There is a vent register in the top so when closed the fan/filter passively vents from that chamber..Here is a pic

Here is my journal so you can see the insides a little more I think.
https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/125191-someguys-grow-journal.html

The veg cabinet is similar but the fans are smaller and there is no carbon filter. neither cab is 100% quiet but with a fan running in the room it pretty much makes it unnoticeable unless you really start taking a look.. But nobody but me goes into the room the cabinets are in so..... lol

Oh.. for insulation I used foam sleeping mats and closed cell foam camping pads etc.. then lined the walls of my grow box with white foam board and gave everything several coats of white roof paint. I'm sure the cabinets you buy are much nicer than mine. But! I really spent a lot less and they are very transportable as they arent as heavy as a metal cabinet.
