High end intake filtration upgrade. Well worth the $$$$.

Just did this intake filter upgrade on my tent. Guy at the hardware store said these are the best money can buy.

All jokes aside, for 99 cents a piece and a couple staples to hold them on, I'm really happy with how these ghetto filters are working. Minimal drag increase and these shitty fiberglass johnnies catch a lot more than you would think. They also block a good amount of light from getting in through the intakes during "Night time"

Im considering cutting out the original "screen filters" built into the tent. They block a good amount of air flow and anything the furnace filters dont catch, those likely wont catch either. Thoughts?

I do HVAC and plan to build a filter box like this, except with a less restrictive filter

Yeah it costs alot for that box. For me to make it may cost 10$ and an hour of work

like you said we don't want light coming through the intakes, so I'm hoping adding in this filter box will make it easy to replace filters as well as being very effective

I like this idea. I also would not run a merv 13 filter (just to much restriction and clog up to easy) but a cheap merv 7 might be in the cards. Im having all sorts of ideas about doing this and ducting the air so that it gets released right in the middle of the tent (where its hottest) and then putting my circulation fans right by that duct to blow some fresh air to the outsides of the tent.

I think I would build the box bigger, im thinking something that would fit like a 14x25 and 10'' duct

Just went on a rampage drawing up plans. (dont be jealous of my top notch CAD work.) I figure i could whip it up with plywood, just make a simple box and make a hinged top for easy filter replacement.

exactly! My idea is to do two 8" inlets , and just throw a grill on the outlet side. The access would be a full panel with magnets or hinges or a small piece of sheet metal for the access hole

Yeah i like a grill on the outlet side idea, i can put 3 oscillating tower fans at the grill to move air around under the canopy. Just took a second look at my tent and it has 8'' ports at the bottom so yeah i would want two 8'' inlets.

400 cfm through a 14x25 merv7 filter would be considered a pretty low flow rate wouldnt it? Ive already got enough resistance on my exhaust fan as it is between the carbon filter, 180 degree turn, hood, and 3 more 90 degree turns.

Man i started this thread out mostly as a joke......

clean intake is no joke when you have hardwood floors!

I actually am exhausting low and intaking high to help add some heat onto my canopy cause the LEDS put too much heat out the back.
a 16x25x1 filter is the most common size for what I'm doing, and i think having the biggest possible filter area is important, but I also want to make the box sleek so it is tight against one side of my tent. I am also considering having it outside of the tent if possible but where I am is tight right now

Yes filter those intakes! I get disgusted when people post pictures of buds with hair and all kinds of crap on them. Nice looking buds ruined with hair, lint, and other crap that sucked into their tent all embedded in the bud.

This might be a better material to use than that expensive filter you're using now. One side is charcoal and black so it blocks the light.

Here's my high tech setup. You can see all the crud it's been catching and it looks like it needs to be changed. As soon as I replace my 6" carbon filter I'm going to just run duct from it outside the tent through a bottom vent. I have 2 4" used carbon filters that I had on 2 bottom 4" vents but the resistance was stronger than the 6" vent filtered with just some filter material so all the air was coming in from one vent. But in the future I'll have 3 intake vents filtered with used carbon filters. We'll see how much airflow they have and how much the tent sucks in. If it's too much I won't use them but I think it should be fine.

Keep'm clean. Amazing how quickly they can get clogged (flow begins to restrict).

Whoa - not mine. lol
Someone actually listed this for sale on craigslist! So beautiful, had to rip a copy. lol

My sock would only look like that - if I'm dead. lol

Offer to buy it from them for more than they're asking and then arrange to meet them in a public place to make the deal. Then don't show up. Anyone that lists something like that for sale deserves to have their time wasted. They could have at least taken that filthy pre-filter off.

Best 10 bucks you'll ever spend. Cut to fit and it sticks to the velcro already on your tents. I use it on intakes and a pre filter on my scrubbers.
Not a bad idea. My intakes arent big enough though. I would like them to be at least 2x the size they are. Using a pleated furnace filter with dual 8'' intakes going to it would be a lot less restriction. I want to have my 440 cfm fan running 100% and the sides of my tent just barely sucked in. Maybe if i cut the stupid screens out and then put that stuff on....... Those screens have got to be really hurting air flow.

Aside from not catching everything, the blue fibers end up in your flower.

I thought about fibers when I decided to use the material I did so before I used it I washed it out thoroughly a few times but nothing came off of it the first time but I still washed it a couple more times.

The only way for crap to get into my tent is when I open the door. I have a wet/dry vac in the garage and vacuum around the tent regularly. I don't want anything getting in. I have 2 dogs and I make sure that hair gets nowhere near my weed. Good thing is the tents out in the garage and that's the one spot they never go in. But I'm sure dog hair makes it out to the garage which is why I'm so vigilant about keeping the floor clean.

Some of the photo's people post of hair covered buds make me cringe. The lint and hair is the only thing I notice. There was one awhile back that looked like someone wearing a sweater had rolled around with the buds. I didn't want to say anything because it was their first grow and everyone was giving them accolades. But I was repulsed. All I could focus on was these synthetic fibers woven throughout the bud.

I've seen some filthy weed grown under lights in a barn that had livestock in it. It was disgusting. Full of hair, dead flies, and who knows what else. And I had smoked some before I looked at it. I'm about to get sick just thinking about it. :spew:
