72 gallon drilled aquarium as a hydro setup?

I have a empty 72 gallon rimless aquarium that is drilled. The water flows over an overflow box, down to a sump where its filtered and then pumped back to the top tank at almost 600gph at the nozzle. Could i set it up as a type of rdwc? Plant 3 or 4 plants and grow? It already has light hangers, top off reservoir. And excellent circulation. No mechanical filtration is involved.

It would be a cool setup though. Ill probably just strip the pump, hoses and use them. It has an Eheim 1262 return pump. Its 900gph at the intake. That'll make a good inline or submersible return pump anyway

Shit.. go buy two or three rolls of aluminum duct tape and wrap that bitch. No paint or anything so it'll still be good after you're done with it

Its tempting and its basically ready to go. 72 gallon tank, with 29 gallon filter. I wonder how many plants thats good for? At least 4, probably 8 but the tanks 42 long 22 depth, 18 front to back.

You could just wrap the tank and tape the edges, prob a good idea to protect it regardless.

You guys have me thinking. making it light proof would probably be a job, but doable. The stand is a little high but I can still work with it. As long as the plants aren't over 6 feet, i guess a wood top to hold the baskets. But would rather have something else. Not sure styrofoam would work? The roots cant be completely submerged can they, So I just need to figure the fill line and styrofoam would work, right? I would rather have something more durable. i would need to add a reducer and splitter on the return of its gonna be top feeding. The tanks return automatically oxygenates the water because of the overflows that drain to the bottom tank

Im thinking having some styrofoam cut to spec. If that's possible

Highly advising again st this. Go buy some containers 5-20gals and build an RDwC if you wanna have that waterfall effect

It would have to be styrofoam coated with carbon fiber or some shit to hold that kinda weight lol
I'd look into something like a 1/2 inch thick piece of osb board. Possibly treated since it'll be near constant moisture. With it @ 42"×18 on the top if thats right.. 3 plants like this --> [o°o]

I have containers. I was just kicking the idea around. I need a good set of plans to go by. Ive always grown outdoors. Now that I'm retired Im moving everything inside. I started with a coco/perlite grow, its still going and too far invested to back out now. I have almost everything needed for a Rdwc anyway. I want to start building it while this other grow is going. Unless someone is in SC and wants all this coco loco, and fox farms ocean lol. But a good set of plans or pictures of a system would be awesome. i googled a few but they're not very clear.
