I think that'll work. I've seen it a few times. I'd just be hesitant putting bare metal on my bare stems lol. I wouldn't tighten it around the branch too hard because it is going to fatten up.
Thats kinda normal for the very bottom but something is speeding it up in your pot. That mix is too hot or your overwatering , thats the only two choices. Your gonna want water only for 4-5 more waterings. The very last resort is to replant her into a new pot. (lets just hope its overwatered, if not its going to be a bitch to replant without stressing her out. )

I don’t believe it’s overwatered, it’s been a few days since last water and I found out I wasn’t giving it enough, newbie grower here! So when I saw yellowing starting at the bottom on both plants I thought nitrogen deficiency so I (mistakenly) fed them a little last night, this morning is when I saw the leaves curling. So I water til about 20-25 percent runoff this morning. Plan is leave for a week then water only again and cross my fingers that they recover.
