Ashes and smoke from fires

I'm getting a good amount of ashes on my plants. They used to blow or shake off easily but now that theyre getting sticky the ashes are sticking... And there is a lot of smoke some days. Anyone know if this is bad for the plants and what I should do if it is?

Look into people that wash their buds post harvest. Looks freaky as shit to me but they dunk their colas in water with a bit of lemon juice and then again with pure water. I never would dare but seems like a decent option for something like that.

I just washed an outdoor light dep crop to get rid of the ash mostly. It was a first time experience for me, but I gotta say I’m impressed so far. The buds seem to be drying and starting to cure well. Washing removed tons of crap from them, dust, ash, bugs.... it really didn’t seem to have any negative impact either. A few buds broke off the stems and stuff like that but not enough to care about.

I thought about doing it to an outdoor plant. I just got the 3 buckets a week ago. What did you wash with? I was thinking citric acid since I have a big bag of it.

I guess it is a much more common option for outdoor grows, makes sense.

You wash your vegetables before eating right. Cigarette companies wash their tobacco so I don’t see what so funny about washing the buds. People that do it give it good reviews and people that don’t give it bad reviews. There’s only one way to find out and that’s to do it yourself and put the debate to rest. I washed half my plant and if I screwed it up by doing it at least I’ll know for sure and I won’t be doing that again.

We used 3 new 30 gallon trash cans. The first had a little handful of baking soda in the water, then the other two were just plain water.

Plants get rained on all year, washing them isnt to much of a stretch of the imagination. I would almost say its necessary for outdoor plants, get all the bug shit, dirt, dust, etc off. I would be more tempted to wash the whole plant before i harvest, just use a gentle sprayer. That way they can dry out in the sun for a couple days and then harvest.

I wash my outdoor plants in plain water. Lot's of crap on them. Pine needles, bugs, tree pollen, all kinds of crap I'd rather not smoke. I just swish them around gently in a tub of water a couple times.

If I lose anything doing it I'm fine with it. The alternative is smoking dead bugs and other nasty crap.
