Taking DWC SOG SCROG to a whole new level

We don't have a possession limit for our home grow medical. They really didn't put too much thought into the laws around medical grows. The five plant limit is ridiculously low in my opinion. Thats why I did this-View attachment 4723847

I'm still smoking the last crop and will not run out before the hoop house known as, "Parts Unknown" is cut, dried and cured.
So while running a perpetual harvest plan sounds fun, it isn't necessarily needed. Especially when you pull over five pounds in a four month run.

It is the time period that is tight. Need to get as much veg growth as possible. Now, rules are rules, 5" high or the length of the stem? You can have a number of plants in veg that can get pretty mature if you keep topping them. This one was not topped but shows the idea. Had some stress but recovered. There is no reason you could not keep some plants in veg for months with them growing more stocky and with a good set of roots. Might even just go right to flower or cut back in veg time enough to finish. But then again, if you miss your window by a bit is that a big hardship?

I just started building a new grow room - i will order seeds within a few weeks. Clones are not available at the moment

since you are the "expert", i'll just leave this with you:
Sea of Green (SOG, not to be confused with ScrOG) is the theory and method of harvesting lots of small plants, matured early to get the fastest production of buds available .

Matured early means little to no veg time. Lots of small plants means lots of small plants.

it saddens me to see growers trying to pound it out for that magic pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. i want to see new growers trying to grow the very best quality possible. without quality no gold. supersoil would be my first suggestion in this situation. when i first moved to Seattle i was so ready to waste money on all my foolish growing plans but the old man at the grow shop set me straight, starting with soil. he could have made lots of money ripping me off instead he schooled me and i was smart enough to shut my fucking mouth and listen. my first run was a blue rhino cutting from one of the top dispensaries. when i was done i left a gram sample with the club. they called me in the next day for an office visit and said that it was the best blue rhino that anyone had ever grown from their cutting. when a top dispensary says your quality is the best it means much more than pounding out. Warlock was my best ever, spearmint aftertaste, terrible yield, unbelievable quality, instantly gold. did i grow it again knowing the yield was disappointing? Fuckin right i did, because it’s about art not gold. Yeah so the best lesson i ever learned as a noob was to shut my fucking mouth and listen...

i'm interested to see your results. i don't see you mention how big your flower area will be or what lights you plan on using. depending on the size of your closet and how much light you use, i don't see why you can't get a pound per plant although only 4 weeks veg and all that training doesn't seem like enough time.

i think if you want to do sog just do sog. who is coming to inspect your grow? if you are not selling what do you have to worry about, the feds are not coming to your house because they found out you grew too many plants. plant counts are stupid, and until someone gives me a valid reason for them, I say they should not be respected. grow the most efficient and productive way you can for your needs.

ok so i know this is just stupid but I’ve always wanted to braid cannabis like a braided ficus. you could pop the count cause it’s not three plants it’s one plant right? but mainly the goofy/silly/stupid side of me would just love to see a braided cannabis plant in flower. i’ve played a fair bit with suppercropping and i believe the plants would thrive all braided up. i know it’s just stupid but one of these days... wouldn’t the pics be cool?

I don't see any reason you can't braid the plants, will they say it is one plant not three? I can't see anyone complain about your plant count in the space you have. You could train a bunch of 5" plants till they have a decent amount of root mass and then weave them together. Mind you the longer you let them grow as clones the harder to weave them together, especially if only 5" tall. I think training a plant in veg to be only 5" tall but cover the whole space might be a way to go. As they say, the devil is in the details.

Flower CANOPY area is roughly 6.5 square feet.

Veg/Babby/Clone Lighting : Florescent blue/red for veg @ about 25 watts per sq ft on Mama and the babies. The clones set above the light simply because clones don't require much light correct ?

Flower Lighting : (2) 600 watt HPS (18" x 24" Diamond plate hoods) that rotate on/off every day. I learned about it back in the late 90's. They did plant productivity testing with 1000watt HPS/ grams per watt and the results showed zero decrease in harvest BUT a major decrease in electricity monthly cost. So I am going to do basically the same thing.

The system im am buying is DWC. Not little 5 gallon buckets DWC its much larger units and come complete with a universally attached SCROG netting. I'll post pics once I have everything in place.

Illinois Medical Marijuana language clearly states that you can only have 5 "Plants" but EVERYTHING you harvest you can keep. No limit. Thanks to the Illinois CannaBitches ! Think I'm kidding ? Google Illinois Cannabitches --- they are the woman who made framed Illinois's NEW Marijuana law and they call themselves the cannabitches.... Silly Lawmakers !!!

I don't see any reason you can't braid the plants, will they say it is one plant not three? I can't see anyone complain about your plant count in the space you have. You could train a bunch of 5" plants till they have a decent amount of root mass and then weave them together. Mind you the longer you let them grow as clones the harder to weave them together, especially if only 5" tall. I think training a plant in veg to be only 5" tall but cover the whole space might be a way to go. As they say, the devil is in the details.

I did that !! I took two ficus benjmina (weeping fig) and braided 3 together after they had rooted. The biggest problem with that is being able to provide them with plenty of Root space... thats brilliant !

i dont fully follow everything, especially the flipping between 2 different lights but maybe when u post pics it will make more sense. Not exactly my style of setup but interested to see what you come up with.

I run a SOG perpetual now and am pulling about the same, but in soil and around 1000w total split between a closet and 2 tents. about 250g every 2 weeks. Still dialing it in and pheno hunting atm so not focused on yields really but ive gotten the same yield consistently so I know I can improve on it once I decide on keepers.

#1 The perpetual grow overshadows the fact that he has been vegging a plant for some time getting it ready.
The issue is that most people don't have this luxury which is why he is wrong by majority. SOG = many small plants, perpetual grow, no time for vegging.

I wasnt going to get into semantics but you are correct. SOG is a method invented in Holland. it is more than just a short veg it also packs plants close together to maximize use of space, and has other benefits like being able to easily remove under performing or sick plants.

I have tried lst and scrog it just wasn't for me. my issues in no particular order: too much time during veg bouncing back from manipulation. bushy plants make fat buds but they can't support their own weight. No easy way to remove individual plants for defolitation or checking for pests. can't easily empty the whole space at will. Have to wait until harvest is over to get in there and scrub. (I like to wipe everything down and bleach/h202 every 2 weeks.)

Like I said not my style but I know a lot of people prefer it so to each their own. I wanna see you pull a lb a month I am sure you can do it will just take some time to dial in!

Security is such a serious subject, I’m going to make a security related thread. I’ll wager there are some juicy security stories here, yes? I don’t often strongly recommend any grower to do anything, but since the cost of fucking this up could be your life... I STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU GET A DOGGUE DE BORDEAUX, PERHAPS TWO. So you are going to veg two plants for four weeks then flower for four weeks. What strain flowers in four weeks?

Oh wait, you are a new member. So how many grows do you have under your hat so far?

So you are harvesting one plant at a time every four weeks rather than having a four week flower time. 8 weeks veg, 8 flower.

do yourself a favor and get a 4x4 tent with a 1000 watt hpswith cool tube or equivalent LeD and make a scrog net with pvc pipe and 2.5-3 in squares. Fill that screen 90% of the way and then flip your lights to 12/12. You will get 2-4 pounds if you do it right! Js
