hello all,
i am in my seventies and suffering from osteo arthritis pain, anxiety and sleep problems.
for over 30 years i have been taking prescribed meds.
i live in tenerife and have access to legally buy medicinal cannabis oil from the local cannabis social club.
my intention is to come off the meds and try the alternative treatment mentioned.

can anyone please suggest a suitable strain to help with pain , anxiety and sleep so i can go along to the club and discuss my requirement with the vendor.
appreciate any input.
thanks

Hi Anrol, welcome to RUI!

I make coconut cannabis oil for my mother and 6 others specifically for sleep and relief of arthritis pain. It's changed my mother's sleep pattern from a couple hours at a time for a total of 4-5 hours a night to 9 hours straight sleep. The other 6 find incredible sleep improvements, one says that he cannot sleep without the oil.

When looking for a strain to help with sleep and pain (and mood) I look for an indica dominant strain that has more of a couch lock effect. This grow I"m using Slurracane but next grow I'll be trying Gorilla Glue and the grow after that Motivation by Serious Seeds. Looking for the best strain, but any good indica will help you.

They take the oil just before bed and it kicks in a half hour later when they've fallen asleep. The effects can be a little unnerving at first, it's best not to be up where you could fall down.

Please ask any questions for issues I missed. Good luck!

I`ve never tested my bud for percentages, sorry. The CBD % would be very low, low to mid teens on the THC. I`ve been wanting to experiment with a high CBD low THC strain for daytime use, cannabis effects are usually too strong for daytime use for first timers.

I add 50 cured grams of bud to 800 ML of coconut oil, the oil is much more potent than is sold at the Liquor Commission here in Canada. The whole mess, along with a tablespoon of Lecethin, is mixed and heated in a Magical Butter Machine. 30 ML of similar oil is sold at the LC for between $60 and $80.

People take one half or one dropper, probably about a half to one ML. The effects will kick in about half an hour and unless you`ve got major sleep problems you should doze off by then and sleep through the effects.

The sleep changes have been life changing for some of the people I supply, hopefully you can get similar help where you live.

Hey welcome, I’m 54 and have won the arthritis jackpot! RA, osteoarthritis, palindromic arthritis, fibromyalgia, etc.
A lot of people like us go for indica. I don’t know what your past experiences are with marijuana but the usual advice is to go low and slow.
Have you tried cbd?
I personally have not found much help from it but a lot of people do. AC/DC is a good 1:1 strain, which means the ratio of marijuana to cbd. This will be the same for most strains you’ll see with a substantial amount of cbd.
https://www.leafly.com is a great website for all kinds of strain information.
I personally like Sativas like Jack Herer. It’s the terpenoids in this strain that I like.
Once I know what terpenoids (terps) I like, I go from there. On leafly they also discuss terpenoids. Some are for inflammation, some are for anxiety, it all depends on how you want to feel.
@curious2garden may be able to help guide you a little more than I but I’m here for you, just ring the bell :eyesmoke:

I also have rheumatoid arthritis, and totally agree with this comment. It's not so simple as CBD=Good for pain, it definitely has more to do with the other terps present. I do use a high cbd strain for seizures, and it helps a bit with pain too, but I only get a decent effect when I mix it with a sativa. I really like the medicinal power of good landrace cannabis.

Understandable. It’s been vilified for quite a while.
It helps me mentally more than physically I think.
