tincture shelf life questions

I'm wondering how long tincture lasts? Best way to store it?

I used to use Everclear, but read some bad things about it and started using cheap 151 rum. I've since been told that rum has sugars in it that can shorten the shelf life of tincture, is that a fact?

Between 2015 and 2017 I experimented with a lot of tincture, butter, and bubble hash. I have lots of older tincture experiments on the shelf that are looking past their prime. I had some tinctures in eye dropper bottles for years, and it got clumpy and weird, I expect we'll be throwing those out. I have one more recent batch that I'd like to have last as long as possible.

Thanks --

Amber bottles to block light and room temp or even better in the fridge. Read up on making your tinctures with mct oil, much better imo.

not familiar with it, "MCT oil"?

Long story, but I had a LOT of pot in a chest freezer I had to get rid of, so along with a massive butter run (that one's easy, just freeze it) I ended mixing 3/4's of a pound with 1500ml of 151 rum and making a big batch of really nice tincture... now I'm trying to figure out how to make it last. It's in the fridge, has been since it was finished. I'm also giving it away as fast as I can, I just don't know that many people who are into tincture.

There's some tincture lol. If you're worried about it going bad before you can use it. Maybe incorporate it into edibles. You can vacuum seal and freeze edibles

If you can exclude oxygen and then deep-freeze, it could last a decade.

I would store in freezer personally. you can also order 200 proof laboratory grade.

With 151 you are getting solubility artifacts. Use 190 Everclear for a full extraction. Read up on the cold quick-wash technique.

had to look up "solubility artifacts" but it sounds like the result is the 'clumping' I see happening with some of the tinctures I've made. Perhaps I've oversaturated the rums capacity to dissolve the cannabis oils.

That is exactly what I’m talking about. A fairly small water impurity makes the relevant cannabinoids say no.
