You're making me rethink QBs for COBs

The output is fantastic. I'm going to check out hortibloom's store to see if they sell individual COB's. I'd love to add 2 more. If they don't sell them individually with heat sinks and fans I'll consider adding another Geyapex in there. 2 of those would be over 800w of flower power. I'm looking forward to seeing and sharing the results of the blue dream flower cycle under the unit.

Love your setup. Nice and clean. You're going to have a great harvest with that kinda power in there. I'm in hydro currently, but the best tasting smoke I've ever grown was in dirt using synthetic fertilizer. There's something magical about the relationship between the cannabis plant and soil. Seeing your soil plants there just got my wheels turning. I'd really like to recreate that magic and transition away from hydro over the next 2 grow cycles. How was the flavor of your last harvest? And if you don't mind my asking what kind of fertilizer and feed regimen do you use? When I was growing in soil years ago I wasn't doing anything fancy. I used a big bag of fox farm's ocean forest mixed with a big bag of happy frog. I started feeding the general hydrponic's 3 part flora series around week 3 at about 800ppm with floralicious plus. My feed regimen was feed, water, water, feed. The plants were watered about every 2-3 days on average so they only got fed every 6-9 days or so. The rest of the time it was just plain tap water. I always PH adjusted to 6.5 and stopped giving fertilizer 10 days before harvest while providing plain water only. I think the low fertilizer input significantly contributed to the high quality results I was able to harvest and enjoy. Over fertilizing is an epidemic in the world of home cannabis gardening. I've gotten some dispensary flower that tasted so strongly of chemicals that it was nearly unusable. And that's not something anyone is looking for

My first grow was soil (ffof) and nutrients were organic liquid (big blooms & buds). My second grow was the same. And honestly... dopest dope I ever smoked. The ice bomb I am currently curing is TOP 3 best smoke I've EVER had. My Northern lights auto turned out really well also.

This grow (pic above) is in coco. Im using BBB nutrients on 3 of them and FF trio on one of them. (Comparing results between nutrients on same strain)

My regimen for soil is feedx6 and plain water day 7.

Update: Today was a heavy defoliation and topping on the blue dream lady under the COB. Foliage was getting very thick inhibiting light access to developing flower sites. I topped every flower site and removed the thick foliage, so as the new flower sites repopulate they will not be shrouded by a clusterfuck of leaves inhibiting their growth. In 7-10 days I'll post pics to show how much she bushes out after the latest hair cut and topping.


These leaves are what I'm taking off. Tons of flower sites are under those leaves. Get 'em outta there baby!

The clone tent is a little smaller than my other 2 nursery tents. She is 4'x4'x6.5'. The others are 5'x5'x6.5'.

Just COB'n it baby. Look at that luscious bush of blue dream She goes into flower in 1-2 weeks. I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of quality the light produces. More frequent updates will be coming. I've been harvesting the last 2 1/2 weeks and life outside of the grow room basically comes to a complete stand still. No grocery shopping. No social calls. No time for anything. It's a bear, but it's over

T minus 3 days to flower switch activation and the beginning of the 12/12 photoperiod under the hortibloom cob light. The plant is a monster as you can see. The only modification I suggest the manufacturer make is to include 4 s hooks which allows for the light to be mounted higher in a grow tent than the 4 long cables the light presently comes with. No biggie. Just an observation. I clipped them off and replaced them with a hooks of my own. This raised the light about 8-9". A significant amount of additional head space. So far this is a badass light for $200. I'm looking forward to seeing how the flower production compares to my HID's and my other 2 quantum boards in the flower room which are running the exact same strain - blue dream. Updates will be posted more frequently moving forward.

You want to keep a space between the top of the light fixture and the top of the tent for proper ventilation. Those type lights run hot as it is.....the extra heat build up will shorten the lifespan of your diodes and driver efficiency will go down pretty fast.

They need a good bit of space to move air through the cage....that's why those cable lengths that it comes with are that long.


You should be able to get that light closer to the plant canopy, how far is it away?

I decided to go ahead and start the flower cycle tonight. The extra output will help provide more heat too which is more than welcome being in the middle of winter. Light spread is fantastic now that the light has been raised to the proper height. The fan has been raised as well and provides continuous airflow on the light for heat dissipation. It doesn't generate a significant amount of heat. I would compare it to my high output 8 lamp T5 which operates at 432 watts. I believe the Hortibloom light operates at 430w at full power with both the bloom and veg switch activated, so it makes sense the heat output is comparable. That's value added in the winter. Otherwise you're just adding electric heaters and paying for more electricity. Some of my quantum boards operate at such a low wattage for vegetative growth that they generate zero heat output. Great in the summer. Terrible in the winter. I have to provide supplemental heat in the area that nursery sits as a result. I'll be defoliating tomorrow. Once more at week 3. I have about 5" of space between the top of the tent and the light. I also keep a fan blowing on the light assembly continuously. Heat is not an issue. Also, the hortibloom COB light is equipped with internal fans that cool the guts. It's a nicely designed little unit.

Moving the light closer will only serve to bleach the foliage and decrease the light footprint. I keep all of my LED boards at maximum height and produce excellent results:

I reached out to @HortiBloom to inquire about purchasing another light. It's been nearly a week with no response. I assume the light has been discontinued, however I see it selling on Alibaba still. I reached out to the vendor for a quote and he quoted me $400 for the same light that was $199.99 on Amazon which is now out of stock. I'll discontinue regular updates of this thread, however I will honor my end of the agreement with @HortiBloom by posting pictures at week 4, 6, and just before harvest so other gardeners have the ability to observe the capabilities of the technology. I'm about to reach out to the vendor an Alibaba to ask why I was quoted double what I paid for the light 3 or 4 months ago on Amazon. Aside from being heavy it's a nice little light. Not a chance I'd pay more than $200 for it though. I'll report back what the 'baba vendor says just to button things up regarding the availability and present cost of the light as @HortiBloom seems to have gone dark on RIU.

Update it's either day 22 or 23 of flower. I'm pleased to report the geyapex is putting on a great show so far. The light is downright intense, but it does not emit much heat at all. Check out the pics and judge for yourself:

Update: Geyapex COB is crushing it with the blue dream on day 31 of flower. My goodness, blue dream is such a fragrant lovely strain. Everyone should have at least 1 in their garden at all times. I know I will. I'm looking forward to seeing how the density stacks up over the next 35-40 days before she gets the chop. I'm hoping to pull 1/2# off of her. More is possible. Time will tell

I'm thoroughly impressed with the performance of this light. Do you think she's capable of a 1/2# output? I think this plant will hit between 8-10oz. That's a very respectable harvest for a 360w light. And all of it is top shelf. I have neatly trained the plant in a spread out fashion and stripped all unnecessary lower foliage and branches directing all plant growth and energy to the canopy. In some of the photos you can see there is some light burn from the intensity of the LED bloom lights. That's acceptable to me as it does not hinder flower development. I could raise the light, but that would hinder flower development. I don't mind sacrificing some fan leaves for the cause at the top of the canopy. I do the same with my plants grown under HID's. And those top buds are always the stickiest and most dense flowers of the entire canopy

What's coolest about this light is that anyone can grow a 1/2# of prime buds right in a corner of their bedroom in an apartment and barely even affect the electric bill. I'm using this light in a $100 4'x4'x6.5' tent. It has an $85 inline fan providing ventilation and a $15 cheap desktop fan blowing over the light. With the $200 cost of the light you're talking a total investment of $400 in equipment to start growing a 1/2# of top shelf smoke every 3-4 months with veg time included. Add another $100 for a good PH meter and fertilizer. $500 is super cheap. When I started 12 years ago I spent nearly $1k. Everything was a rip off back then. And that's just the way it was. Times are a great deal better for growers these days, and I'm okay with that

So we're about 2-3 weeks from harvest at this point working through the bulking phase. She's drinking heavily now to the point I may have to start watering once per day until harvest. The trichome development is remarkable. Fantastic genetics being brought to their full potential by the Geyapex COB LED. Look at 'er sparkle:
