Does not matter. Vibrations on the road, compaction and handling are going to damage things. Hanging may be worse. Due to increased g forces from additional movement and abrasion. Gently layer in a box on its side with non static bubble wrap padding every layer if shipping gold. Why the hassle if not?

Seriously though. On all the long road trips I took, I'd listen to almost all the Judas albums.

If you're not worried about odor and you're only going 100 miles (2 hours?) I'd get regular cheap 30gal totes. If the fan leaves are left on you'll have some cushion. If you want to take it a step further get some 2x4s and some string and frame the inside of a box truck (like U-Haul) and run strings like you would for drying.
