Karl Marx's comment on religion in 1844

The foundation of irreligious criticism is: Man makes religion, religion does not make man. Religion is, indeed, the self-consciousness and self-esteem of man who has either not yet won through to himself, or has already lost himself again. But man is no abstract being squatting outside the world. Man is the world of man – state, society. This state and this society produce religion, which is an inverted consciousness of the world, because they are an inverted world. Religion is the general theory of this world, its encyclopaedic compendium, its logic in popular form, its spiritual point d’honneur, its enthusiasm, its moral sanction, its solemn complement, and its universal basis of consolation and justification. It is the fantastic realization of the human essence since the human essence has not acquired any true reality. The struggle against religion is, therefore, indirectly the struggle against that world whose spiritual aroma is religion.

Religious suffering is, at one and the same time, the expression of real suffering and a protest against real suffering. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people.

The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is the demand for their real happiness. To call on them to give up their illusions about their condition is to call on them to give up a condition that requires illusions. The criticism of religion is, therefore, in embryo, the criticism of that vale of tears of which religion is the halo.

I agree with him

I agree with most of that as well. You have to break apart God and religion. You can have a relationship with God and a belief in God without a “religion”. Religion is a man made story.

It’s used for manipulation a lot. I listened to a sermon one day about 10% tithe. He said 10% should come from pre tax earnings. He said you wouldn’t put the govt before God would you?

snakes 99% of them
Jesus was asked about tithing and whether it should be done pre or post tax. Jesus asked to see a coin. Someone handed him one. Jesus looked at it and said, "who is this on the coin?". The man said, "That's Caesar."

Jesus said, "Then give unto Caesar that which is Caesar's."

God, if you believe the teachings of Jesus, has no use for your money. He wants 10% of your efforts. 10% of everything you do should be for someone else. Change that tire, give that ride, fix that barn, whatever it is. If it happens to be give someone a few bucks to help them out, so be it, but neither Jesus nor God ever asked anybody for any money.

You have to break apart God and religion
That is fucking impossible.
The idea/ideal of a "God", an entity that created the Cosmos & all within it it just an alien concept to me.
I believe in the simple concept of right vs wrong, good vs evil, that's it.
I believe in the 10 Commandments, they were written by a wise person eons ago, but did Moses receive them on a tablet handed to him by God?
I seriously fucking doubt it.
I believe that Jesus Christ existed & was a noble man.
Did he raise the dead & walk on water?
I really doubt that also.
Religions are cults, designed to unify/defend tribal instincts.
Christian vs Jew
Catholics vs Protestants
Hindu vs Muslim
I believe in the basic concept of goodness/kindness & treating my fellow Humans with dignity & respect
It seems too me at least, that the concept of a God & it's affect on the masses get's in the way of that.
Over 88% of the American populace believes in a God.
Most Americans Still Believe in God (gallup.com)
Maybe, we should re-think our position?
After all, Trump said he was the "Chosen one"
Really, God chose him?
Too do what?
Destroy Humankind?
FUCK GOD, I'LL MEET HIM IN HELL, right?
That's what the myths expect, right?
Good, bring it the fuck on, & I will kick he/she/it's fucking ass, or die again & again & again trying.
Peace out/wear a mask/stay safe & have a fucking awesome Xmas & a hopefully stupendous New Year!!!!!
Light one/sip one & turn it the fuck up :)

God is an indescribable thing which has infinite reach. Religion is just a way to “praise” or “give back” to your “God” depending on your religion.
God, the idea of it is an abstract.
The theory of a God, an omnipotent benevolent entity is a fucking mystical delusion that has captivated/kept Humankind in chains/chaos seemingly/apparently forever.
This is my God

Jesus didn’t say go create religion, he said go love each other.
Humans are weak and wicked of their own doing.
This hatred among his kids makes him sick and hurt but he can’t stop us because we have feel will.
This is just my opinion and what I believe. I was MADE to go to church and all that bullshit and I stopped as soon as I wasn’t living under their roof, know what I mean.
Image being a homosexual forced to listen to that. Causes a lot of rage man.
But when left to my own devices I found something different.
I even think maybe there are other beings in the heavens. Why not?
Anyway, religion and God aren’t the same thing. Also in my opinion. But they’re like assholes right, everybody has one.
It’s all good, we should all do whatever makes us happy. IMHO
:eyesmoke:
Merry Christmas

Jesus Christ/Buddha are my role models.
I strive everyday to incorporate/understand/interpret their teachings/knowledge into my existence
But existing today in this World of Trump makes it difficult.
I can deal with the reality of COVID-19, that is a natural, organic occurrence, but I have a lot of trouble accepting Trump & his supporters.
He's fucking pure Evil, & yet adulated by 90% of the Evangelicals, a purportedly God fearing community that represents a huge proportion of the population in the US.

Poll: 90 Percent of Evangelicals Back Donald Trump (breitbart.com)

What the fuck is up with that?
