first time cloning - is this ok?

Hey all, so this is my first time trying to clone. I having taken a cutting from the mother plant which is an outside growing plant. I cut the stem pretty close to the node on an angle to increase surface area. I have left a few leaves on the top. Just wanting to know whether i need to take more leaves off? have i cut close enough to the node? and should i use a clear or opaque cup? not sure is light will damage the roots when they take.

You need high humidity so put in a germination box.
You might wanna use a rockwool cube and dip the cut in some clonex gel first.

I know that theoretically clones will root in water, however, I have never been successful trying to root clones in water. I have some right now in water that are 3 weeks old and no roots at all. I am going to be patient and wait until either they die or root, no matter how long it takes, just to see what happens.

I did successfully root several clones that I cut and dipped the stem in cloning gel, then planted in rapid rooter cubes and placed in a dome. I had roots on 3 of these within 10 days, but you have to be careful, open the dome at least twice a day, spray with rooting hormone foliar spray, and keep the cube moist.

So my recommendation is if you don't want to wait a month to be disappointed, invest in a dome, some rooting gel and grow cubes.

You may also want to consider the hydro cloning systems on Amazon, for less than $100 you can get a machine that will clone up to 48 at a time. That might seem expensive until you consider the rooting gel is $25, the rapid rooter cubes are $20 for 50, and the dome itself is $20. With the machine, you don't need the gel or the cubes, they just root on their own.

Nope he doesn't. If you take cutting directly in water you don't need domes and misting, same with Aero clones. He should be fine if the clone is healthy and he change the water daily.

You don't need root gels or hormones. I use RO water few drops of blom nutes and bleach. Cannabis is not that different from other plants when it comes to cloning.

Haven't your mom's been taking cuttings in a glass of water successfully? Mine always did! Cheers!

If u bubble the water they will root faster
I dont use this method but i know someone who does and it works ok just add some.h202 to stop mold and bacteria from growing

I change the water every day so I don't have to worry about bacteria. I don't know what I am doing wrong, but rooting in water has never worked out for me.

Bubbling the water is what the clone machine does, I'll probably get one since the cost of root cubes and gel adds up over time.

We used to stick cuttings in empty beer bottles and line them up on the windowsill. I'd say the success rate was over 90% as long as you change the water daily. This was with chlorinated tap water fyi. Make yourself a cheap aerocloner if you want it to go faster and better though, same idea, just add aeration. There are plenty of guides online, some people use buckets or plastic totes, you just add an aquarium pump and diffusers-get at least an 8 watt pump and those fine mist diffusers work well-the disks, not the airstones. If you go bigger, you'll need a more powerful pump, OR, if you find a small container big enough for just a few clones you could stick in the cheapest airstone/pump you can find. Or just go with rapid rooters. Cloning takes a bit of practice anyway you choose.
