Actually, according to some on here, it’s 2 weeks after the sun flips to 12/12
Do you count flowering from 12/12 switch or when you see pistil hairs?

Being a “standard” among a bunch of indoor cannabis growers does not make it biologically accurate. Indoor vs outdoor doesn’t really matter either.
Biologically it takes a period of time for the plant to build enough hormones to actually begin to flower. The length of that period can vary depending on plant varietal and environment. Biologically that period is referred to as the “preflower” period, it’s also commonly called the transition period.
I quit counting many years ago because it doesn’t really matter. I grow my plants until they are ready and I feed them what they need along the way to keep them happy and healthy. Plants can’t read calanders, and sure don’t care when you think they should be done.

Around here we just care about when our regular season outdoor is ready to take down. Couldn’t give a fuck when they technically start flowering. It’s not like we are going to replant as soon as they’re done.So it looks like sept 28 will be my first day of flower outside this year

His point is that they begin flowering without ever being put on 12/12. And that they are considered flowering once you see flowering growth happening, not because some arbitrary day you switched the lights.

I count days from 12/12, because I grow the same cuts multiple cycles, and I need to know how long it's gonna take from flip to harvest for each strain. That way I can grow strains together which have similar flowering times, and not have the tent only half full for a couple of weeks while I'm waiting for a longer strain to finish after the short finishing strain is done. Also it's a good way to anticipate when the plants in veg need to be ready to move into flower (by knowing when the strain in flower will be done). Sure, if you're growing different strains from seed all the time, it's somewhat pointless, but if you are trying to dial in your cycles with known strains, you want to know how long the 12/12 cycle will be.
