I built a stealth grow box out of an old filing cabinet (a rather smaller sized one as it’s a stealth box. It measures 18”w x 28”d x 60”h). I started by removing all the drawers, and roller tracks so it was just the metal shell of the filing cabinet. I then removed the faces of the drawers and tied them all together so they work as one solid door.
I insulated the inside of the cabinet with 1/2” foam insulation board to help reduce noise. Then lined the inside with reflective Mylar blanket.
the light being used is a 300w viparspectra LED that’s hung about 1” below the top.
for ventilation I made 2 4” holes on the back side, one on top and one on the bottom. Bottom feeds fresh air, top is exhaust.
One of the largest problems I had on my last attempted grow was the humidity would range drastically.
Being such a small grow box the humidifier took up a lot of floor space, and easily created dense fog nearly 85-90% humidity seemingly on any setting. But without the humidifier it would dry up extremely fast, to about 10-15% humidity.
first question is what can I do to reduce that humidity swing?
another problem I had might be related to the humidity, but in the event it isn’t I’ll list it anyways. The temperature would swing too. One day I came home with the humidifier empty and the temp in the HIGH 90s. I figured with the LED and how high it sits in the box it’s likely just baking everything.
To attempt to combat it I got a cheap desk fan and had it blowing over the light to help disperse the standing heat. With some effect.
any response with helpful ideas will be greatly appreciated. I’m still quite new, so forgive me if I’m missing any other important info, if any other info is needed I’ll update accordingly.
