Holy crap I run 5 600 watt lights @ 660 and I hardly use all that crap. My AC runs constantly. I run 3 550 Bspecs and 4 V2 100's and I don't even use all those fans. My bill is less than $500 a month.

Something doesn't add up here.
You keep saying something doesn’t add up I had a HPS setup, used a 4” to 6” reducer so it was hella hot and I had to use hella fans to keep wind blowing on plants, ac in room to keep Tent under 100f, and a dehu because I couldn’t get the humidity out fast enough because I was just exhausting into house.

power bill was 500. Ole lady said get more energy efficient setup or I gotta quit, I got new setup, and power bill is 300 instead of 470,500.

Oh shit DD, I thought you ran a 600. That's why I asked the questions I did last night. For the comparison. I think you said it came out pretty much the same. But you were talking about compared to the 1000 hps.........................now that's fucking awesome then :eyesmoke:
This run was a 600 Rspec with a 30watt UV bar, both HLG. They replaced a 1000 watt MH/HPS setup easily. I am quite happy with my purchase and the removal of heat issues from my grow. I have taken 1 plant out of my 4x4 tent with 3 to go. The first plant yielded what is in the picture. We shall see what the other 3 yield but I won't be going back to HPS. Buy hey, ignorant people that want to say "He spent 1000$ on a LED light that produces same as a 600 hps good job" make me laugh. It's all good, everyone is entitled to their opinion even if I think it's a joke. 20210227_165902.jpg20210213_211754.jpg20210213_223931.jpg

I'm not calling you a liar. Please don't think that. TO ME, and me only, I think something is not right with the bill. Fans are 25 to 100 watts. I run 20 small fans and 9 very big ones as well as all my lights and a central AC that pretty much never turns off.

When I turn one of my flower tents off for a month my bill goes down by about $20 to $30. That's it. That's turning off 2 small fans, 1 large fan and 660 watts of hps. So when you say you turned off a few fans, some AC and a dehumidifier I have trouble seeing a $200 reduction in your electric bill.

That's why I'm saying something doesn't add up.

We should also bring up the fact that's $1000 Canadian. People seem to assume we are always talking about US dollars.
Technically I spent $1,255.26 CAD on my light and than added the $300 UV bar. So over $1500 in total to light my tent. Just giving full disclosure. It is sad that some people seem so upset I have worked my way up to a point where I can buy shit that is at the top of the market. Did I need to just buy top grade gear to get the job done, no. Am I happy with my purchase, absolutely. I have no regents.

Happiness is all that matters IMO. Cheers DD

Another thing to consider is Price of electricity isn't universal. You could be paying .10 kwh while someone in another country could be paying .35

Understood......................that crossed my mind. I like to play detective sometimes when it comes to math issues. But he is claiming a $200 reduction from the change of 1 light. It's kind of hard to swallow but it could be true.

So I just was reading and am not sure what is being discussed here for sure. But, I would like to add my two cents on what I got from it. So I used to run HID lights. But i changed due to a theft of my original lights. I decided to go with led this time around, and omg! They run so cool that I had to add a heater! And the bill change is worth the extra for the lights. I am running 3 Mars31F7C775-BC55-47CA-BA77-7107EAE2A6BC.jpeg tsl 2000’s. And they are killer! I’m getting great yields and quality. And of course... pics or it’s not real! 31F7C775-BC55-47CA-BA77-7107EAE2A6BC.jpeg

Nice man. Not really much being discussed. I changed from HPS to LED and am very happy. There is always some guy coming along saying "you paid too much" for whatever reason. In the end I am happy with my purchase as you seem to be. It's not like I am saying MH/HPS won't do the job. I still have mine and can guarantee they will get the job done. It's more about saying this will get the job done too. Things progress in life, new technologies emerg. We need to embrace them. It doesn't mean old school ways don't work, it just says there is an alternative. Here is my first grow under the new light. Next one will be way better.

LOL, thanks for your opinion. You don't like my purchase feel free to keep changing bulbs and fighting heat. I know it was a good job. The same as a 600 HPS, ROFL, ok. I have run both and am more than happy with my purchase considering it replaced a 1000 watt HPS that required cooling, bulb changes and resolution of too much heat. Why you're spouting off like this on my thread makes me wonder? But hey, it's all good. Hate on LED's all you want. I am going to go smoke another joint produced by my purchase. You take care now.

very nice. I’m pretty happy as well. I did a test run when I first got em. And was amazed at how it came out. N the one I have going now is massive! A single plant and it’s gonna yield very high. The quality was med grade and it tasted great. Cant wait to buy 10 more tsl’s. Pics or it’s not true ! She’s huge takin up a 4x6 space by herself. 71BD8F59-3A50-4ADF-95FA-F324BD778FAD.jpeg

Pada, I added up all the $$$$ needed up front to light 5 tents over 5 years. Assuming the hoods and ballasts last 5 years the total cost came out to $4750 for 5 ballasts, 5 hoods and 2 bulbs for each tent a year.

Assuming the LED's last 5 years with no problems for 5 tents - for an awesome HLG light - gonna cost $5k minimum up front.

Now with the SLIGHTLY lower cost to run the LED's you will definitely save more than enough $$$ to make the LED option more viable. It's the up front $$$ that hurts.
LEDs typically have a lifespan of over 50,000+ hours.

8760 hours in a year. I think he’ll be good for 10 years and change. Oh yeah that’s if he ran his light 24/7.

Main reason I’ve switched over to LEDs at least a decade ago was for cost reasons. Buying bulbs and replacing ballasts ends up costing way more than a top of the line LED fixture will cost. Hell you can even get a nice China LED black box with the right CREE LEDs and get some banging growth. The technology has been proven and is continuing to improve.

Innovation is obviously another big reason to be on the side of the LEDs. I can set all my light schedules and ramping up and ramping down periods and control every percentage of color spectrums through an app on my phone. The controllability is insane these days. No physical timers necessary.

Wait though.... it’s not that expensive guys! I spent $250 usd a piece for my lights (Mars hydro Tsl 2000) and they perform great. Low heat and 1/3 of the bill for three 400 wat HID lights. And doing a side by side comparison, it looked like it would take two of the HID’s to creat as much light. And with a light meter it turned out to be stronger over a larger area. Sure HID’s still work, just like a wagon n horse can still haul your supplies back to the cave you keep those dinosaurs in. Lol.

Mars, lol. Yes Mars seem to work. I have a Mars grow kit on trial right now in another thread. You want to talk Ferrari vs Ford, by all means. They will both get you there. You are right, it doesn't have to be that expensive but that's not the point. Welcome to RIU.

This is a good thread. Glad I made the whole read. My stepfather still loves the old HPS and I was gonna get him a cheapy magnetic 1k setup for like $150. He still swears by them even tho we have a tent full of 1600 watts of HLG LEDs that are bangin away. Some people just like what they like no matter what scientific info is put in front of them. All good if everyone has weed and is happy...and can pay the electric bill lol.
