I worked for minimum wage and when that wasn't enough I took another job. Sometimes I had three jobs. I did what it took. Too many people today are just plain lazy. They work some simple job that requires no skills, they go home early if they can soon they can watch some stupid reality crap like Honey Boo Boo. There is plenty of opportunity in America. There are plenty of jobs. If someone is too lazy to work harder or can't get a better job because they can't stop smoking weed long enough to pass a drug test then that's their problem.

All through the pandemic Amazon has been hiring in Portland. Those jobs already start out at $15 an hour and they can't fill them. There are people complaining about being months behind in their rent even though with the combined state and federal unemployment they were receiving they actually had more money than when they were working. As soon as they found out there was a moratorium on evictions they stopped paying rent and started blowing their money on junk. Some people could be paid three times what they already make and they would still be poor because they blow their money as soon as they get it on all kinds of frivolous items.

The minimum wage should not be based on the cost of living. There are jobs that should not be considered living wage jobs.

Oh I did. But I found that in the real world the key to making money and keeping it is to get skills that are in demand, spend your money wisely, and save all that you can.

I do believe that many jobs should pay more. I disagree that just raising the minimum wage for all jobs in not the right thing to do. Fast food, the guy on the landscape crew running a leaf blower, the kid working at the farm supply store on the weekend. Those are not $15 an hour jobs.

I have a friend that can barely read and write that learned a skill as a bricklayer years ago. It's hard backbreaking work but he's doing great. He worked his ass off, didn't go to college, but now owns a home, has a couple cars, money in the bank, and does every side job that comes his way. People that are willing to learn and work can prosper.

there is a Federal Minimum Wage because of people that think like you..that's how we came up with the agreement.

Yes says me. I worked fast food jobs when I was in High School. It's not a $15 an hour job. If people want to make more than some teeneager then they need to get some job skills. Even back then I was able to move up into management and was an Assistant Manager at a Burger King when I was 18. All the lazy employees with no motivation were jealous. Making comments like X has been here longer and should have gotten the promotion. Well X was a lazy ass with no desire to taker on any additional responsibility so X continued to work the fry station while I sat in the back office counting the tills and interviewing prospective new employee's.

There is a culture of lazy in America. People that lack the desire to improve themselves and their financial conditions should not just be given a big payday for doing the bare minimum and taking the easiest jobs with no responsibility. I've worked my ass off all my life. I worked for minimum wage at low skill jobs. I wanted morte so I did something about it and improved my job skills. If others don't have the motivation to get shit done and improve their lives that's their problem. But forcing employers to pay a minimum wage of $15 an hour for jobs that require no skill and a blind monkey could do is just ridiculous.




No assumptions. Just a lifetime of observations. $15 an hour minimum wage is just plain stupid and would do more harm to the economy than good. That added cost would be passed onto the consumer or many businesses would close their doors. Some businesses are operating on extremely low profits. Raising the minimum wage would wipe them out. FACTS not assumptions.




I don't believe in trickle down. But I also don't think that a $15 an hour minimum wage is appropriate. Industries that require skilled labor already pay more than that. Those that don't require skilled labor like fast food, landscaping, and others should not be forced to raise their base pay to $15 an hour.

Exactly. I think the federal minimum wage should go up a little, but $15 is ridiculous. It should be handled by the states.

$15 in New York isn't shit, but $15 an hour in somewhere like South Dakota is a lot. It should be based on the cost of living.

Here in Florida the voters voted for 15 bucks an hour. The fine print tells you it starts at $10 in September of 2021 and goes up a dollar every year after that. (I think it's $8.65 now)

Where I'm at the cost of living is low, as is wages. Living in Tampa or Miami could easily cost two to three times what it does here.
