What’s your setup?

I’m looking at possibly making another grow space, only this time in a tent. I’m currently in a stealth grow box but I’m looking to increase my space.
I’m just curious what you folks have as your setup and what makes it better / worse than others?

ultimately I’m just trying to see what’s REQUIRED in a tent, and what puts it over the top for best yields.

Hey man, so many variables. Take a look at a complete grow kit from someone like Mars Hydro. Not to buy but just for the list of things you will want. Add to that list clip fans and PH/PPM meters. There are a million kinds of lights, I have HLG, some swear by Meijiu, ChilLed are good. TImber makes good lights. Depends on what you want to spend. Take a look, make your list and come back to chat.

i have one note as far as quality. Im using 2 cheap amazon tents and the zippers/light proof flaps are trash. Im definitely wishing id have spent the extra cash on something nice like a gorilla tent for flowering, cheapo tents would be okay for veg/clones.

Also as for size, its better to buy slightly larger than you think you might need, the extra room promotes better airflow, and if youre gonna have negative pressure from exhaust fans you will lose square footage from the tent walls being sucked inwards. I have a 3x3 and i wish it was a 4x4.

I feel this. I had to hang up a couple of giant blackout curtains in front of my tents. It's actually kind of cool, they slide and it looks like a fancy Broadway stage or something. But still, get a good tent. Also make sure it's strong because you'll be hanging all sorts of heavy gear off of it.

If you just want to veg you don't need a grow box or a tent.

Vegged next to the furnace under a blurple. Low temps and RH.

I tried vegging in the furnace room as well figuring the free heat would be great. The damn furnace would pull out any amount of humidity I added and I would be stuck in teens for RH. I had to move them out because the new growth was stressed and twisted.

How low is the RH in your setup? Those plants look quite happy.

Locations probably got a big part to do with that... right? Areas down south have higher humidity whereas average humidity where I’m from is pretty low. Let alone indoors with a furnace

Split my guest room in half with black tarp double layer from floor to ceiling, got my exhaust hoses out window neighbors are cool the like smell and we are on private road. Cost me under a hundred to set up made room about 5x12 plants are digging it

I think you should just build it to suit your needs, everyone's situation is a little different. One isn't necessarily better or worse than the next...you can keep it simple and buy an entire kit or just buy the basics and piece it together as you go depending on need. Maybe you don't need a humidifier or a carbon filter - put that money towards other items.

Just don't buy a short tent, you will lose at least a foot of space inside due to hanging the light and any pots you place inside on the floor.

Also, when looking into lights, take into account the recommended hanging distances from canopy, then look for tents that can work in this range.

Use these to create a shopping list only!
Marketing terms are hardly ever accurate or honest - just reality.
---
example - I bought a 4x4 "Complete Kit". --- Tent / Light only.

The light - A Viparspectra VA-1200 Dimmable** - was advertised as "THE" light for my 4x4.
-My experience has been that the light grows great weed --- but realistically I'd like 4 of it to maximize my 4x4.
--- Suddenly my cheap burple just quadrupled in price and I might as well look at HLG / Meiju Etc.

So it's not just that A LOT of burples suck --- even the good ones overhyped. Be aware of that.

**Vipar.... VA-1200 - the model # implies 1,200 watts right?
- Nope. 260 watts at the wall (that info is on the label if you read it).
- A 4x4 tent is 16sq ft. 260w is not nearly enough! I would need 3, but the form factor would require 4 lights to achieve a uniform canopy.
- My current lighting consists of 5 lights - all advertised to flower a 4x4.................

-I'm currently putting away pennies for a better fixture that WILL flower my 4x4 - and then I gotta get another one - I just got a used 4x8! :eyesmoke:

Agreed, I think the Mars kit is complete other than the couple things I listed to add. That will give a good shopping list. Now they can start looking at the individual items and figure out what will work best for them.

Vivosun 4x4, air cooled hood, carbon filter and 6" fan outside of tent.
Advice i would give is hooded, air cooled light, dont skimp on this. My filter just stands on the floor, duct fan on top on the side of the tent. You want all the room you can get inside to raise the light. Also more air volume means lower temps...however small the benefit, it matters.

I know some struggle with cold temps in the winter, but If you're in a warm area you might need A/C to run HID lights.

Or go LED - I'm in SoCal running appx. 700w. Averaging from 78-83f without A/C (intake pulling from outside).
I'd need A/C to run HID.

Yeah but you have the option to remove the glass, remove the ducting during winter, if you dont own a hooded, vented light, ur fkt wishing you bought one during summer. Best upgrade i ever made

I would agree with that. I have a vented hood on my 1000 watt MH/HPS but the best upgrade I made was to an HLG 600 Rspec.
