Looking for a good grow light for 2-3 plants. Alot of choices out there. Don't want to break the bank. Appreciate any suggestions.

have you ever heard of the 150 w cmh? it would make a killer light for a 2x2 i would think . they are expensive as heck though

I can't say I've ever heard of a 150w CMH but that's an interesting concept.
At that wattage I'd imagine that system runs very cool considering how little heat a 315w puts out.
My very first grow light was a 150w HPS and boy, oh boy, did it put out some serious heat.

this is the bulb. the fixture is where they get you. unless i missed a cheaper option somewhere. but i think it was $400 plus for the whole thing.

If you have a rectangular space I would consider a Mars Hydro SP 3000, with any other space I would go Quantum Board, but build it myself. Next to HLG there are other suppliers in Holland: www.rubul.nl dont know if US has companies designing own QB's but must be.
With HPS I don't like the fire hazard unless installed by licenced electrician and still the cabes and ballast run very hot. Usually one needs an extra electrical group installed, there go your low costs for HPS.
If you want a managable temp in your growspace and / or live in a hotter summer climate, you want to work with the new Samsung Led LM 301 QB's. 30% more efficient so every 100 watts is comparable to 135 watts of the older boards. They almost put no heat out and lifespan of these boards is twice as long only 80% after 4 yrs instead of 2.

Way more in total power used when combined with the other goodies you would need to keep a 2x4 cool enough specially if the op is in a warm climate.
