Kali Mist - Seed to Stone

Last time I grew Kali was 2010. I would get a serious anxiety attack with just a couple small pipe hits but 15 min later was just really high and buzzing like an angry hornet. The seeds I used were from the old Marc Emery seed bank but not sure of the breeder.

I crossed it with NL#5 and the right pheno worked just right for my depression without the anxiety. Another strain I grew with Mazar worked well too so I just got some Mazar Auto crossed with Gorilla Auto called Mazarilla Auto aka Mazar Fakar from Urban Legends. Was an auction at another site and scored 25 seeds for $70US. Hoping they are here before mid-June so I can plant some outside.

With any stretchy plants I try to do a few toppings on them when young as it seems to spread the stretch around so it's not so bad. The Kali was great for a properly done ScroG and the extra veg time to tie the branches down and get the screen close to full paid off well in yield. Did one in DWC ScroG that was less than 3x3' and got a half pound of dry bud and the same in larf and sugar trim. I found it to be a fairly easy strain to grow too but don't go too heavy on the feed. Different breeder, different needs tho but you know how that works.

Just getting her started. She was a multi-branched mother in a 2L tobacco can of Promix that I sawed the bottom third of the root ball off and put in one that I drilled a bunch of 3/8" holes in to make a custom net pot. Wasn't sure if it would work switching her to DWC but no problems at all.

Day 28 of veg and it's time to top for a second time.

I'm going to snip just below the top node, giving me 4 top colas and 2 branches catching up on the sides.

You can see the little stem stumps I left, both to be sure that I'm not snipping the tops of the new branches and so there's no hole developing between the colas.

All four topped for a second time, another week / week and a half and I'll top for the third time, giving me 8 colas.

I've grown over 70 strains of cannabis and Kali Mist stretched more than any other. I put a clone into flower at 3 inches and it ended up over 5 feet.

I'm hoping to limit most of the stretch by spreading it out over 3 dozen colas, one of the benefits to topping.

I harvested my Motivation and Gorilla Glue last night, ended up with what will be about 200 cured grams per plant.

Motivation suprised me with the volume, there were buds all the way down from the top colas and the buds were very chunky and dense. Not quite the volume of Blue Dream in the same place, but more weight because of the bud density.

Day 39 of veg.

I topped each plant for the third time, giving 8 colas from the original first top cola, and topped the two side branches to give 4 side colas, 12 in total.

Day 43 of veg.

Serious Seeds recommends vegging Kali Mist for only 3 weeks, 1/2 the time I've got invested in colas and roots so far. The stretch of Kali Mist is legendary, I once vegged a clone to 3" and ended up with a 60" plant at the end of flower.

My 4 KM are being topped so many times that the stretch the first 3 or 4 weeks of flower will be spread over so many colas.

6" pots to 7 gallon fabric pots.

The 6" root pruning pots create a lot of roots.

Water the inner root ball (from the 6" pot) immediately after transplanting.

I'll veg until I get 24 - 36 colas, then move the plants to the flowering tent. I'll be keeping close tabs on the height at the end of veg and during the stretch, I'll be able to dial in the grow on my next Kali Mist excursion.

Tiflis I just had my first couple of bowls of Motavation. The smell was like Welch`s Grape Juice, the taste the same on the back sides of the tounge.

Not at all like I thought it would smell, from the ``fresh paint`` description and earlier smell on the plant.

The stone is mild yet, it hasn`t been curing for even 2 weeks. Very relaxing, some pressure and ringing in the ears.

This is going to be a real nice stone come July.

Just put my Kali Mist x Nevil Haze in flower. This one is going to be a banger! Smells really good already in veg, the smell hits your nose strong like a sharpie marker

I moved my plants from the veg tent (3x3, 200 watt led) to my flower tent (4x4, 1000 watt led). The extra light should speed up growth, I'll probably put the plants into flower when the colas grow out to 6" or so.

I also clipped the side branches, I tried topping them higher so I could LST them and stretch them out to the middle to the tent. The centre colas weren't growing so I ended the experiment, I'll still have about 30 colas per plant.

If you look above you see the Achilles heel of the Black Dog style centre of tent LED. The lion's share of the light goes down the middle of the tent, where the plants don't grow unless extremely LST'd.

In Canada we can only grow 4 plants so a smaller pot, nine plant grow wouldn't fit.

I like the design of the Diablo Scorpion but it's only 650 watts.

Any opinions?

I'm posting pics at all the stages of change so I can look back and see what I'd do the same or different. Eventually I'l have a procedure for dialling in a grow,

One thing I'd change is keeping the canopy flat and not trying to compensate with longer branches on the sides. I clipped off 32 colas my last pruning because the were growing taller, faster, than the middle colas.

Do you know which Kali Mist they use? The Nevil is supposedly an old 90’s cut.

They don't specify say which Kali Mist was used. Whichever one they did this plant is putting out some strong smells. There was a thread where someone said they could smell the buds through a mason jar, seems a little far fetched but this stuff should be extremely terpy! Still only about a wk in flower now my other Haze variety took a month just to start flowering
