Little old but if someone looking that info.
This can be done. Ive put them in water every branch cut off main stalk and let them sit in water 36 hours. Ive done it under light because i have small cabinet and those RH rising through the roof but light helps, i go with that princible because in night plants sleep. They absorb pretty good amount water but now drying and after a week or two i can know if this help for final product and had flush nutes out and break chlorophyll. Sry for my faulty english.

Plants don't sleep at night, and you don't need to flush.

Hope that helps with your issue.
