I was around 11-12 years ago, doing basic small grows from what I could scrounge up. I had a basic CFL setup with materials out of the garage, made in the closet. I had some good success in those days.

In my area, cultivation up to 100G is a misdemeanor, so it's something Im willing to risk, by growing 1 decent plant at a time.

I have an old MH light I was going to use, and just build a cabinet to use. I did a quick search on amazon, and I found entire setups now. Tents, with lights, fans, air filtration, etc. Packages like this could not be found for less than like $2000 back then. They're $400 for a decent size.

Back in the day, I grew some decent shit with just 6 cfls, and seeds from OK mids.

What're you's guys opinions on MH vs LED? Its summer here, and was nearly 100F the other day, I dont have real A/C, so I was leaning towards just buying a led setup, and use the MH in the rest of the year when its cooler.

Speaking of buying, whats your opinions on safety when it comes to buying on amazon? Should I find a smaller site thats more private? I dont mind spending A BIT more, as Im no longer on the poor man budget, for safety.

I like LST setups for my personal grows, i just think they're fun, but with the "Kits" they come with netting, so I was possibly thinking SCROG.

Im thinking a 2x2x4 (feet), 1 plant at a time. if I go LED, how large should I go as far as wattage? Im thinking the one of the mars hydro tent kits. Maybe leave enough room for if i decide to clone or add another plant.

So what do you guys think? Any times for someone getting back into it? Any advice of any kind is really welcome. Im open to discussions as well.

The SUNRAISE qb2000 is perfect for a 2x2 tent, but 4' height is quite a low height constraint. Can you go taller?
This is in a 3x3 tent with that light, but the light dimensions are approx 22"x22". Will be perfect for 2x2. Keep an eye on the Best Deals thread. @Marq1340 posts some sweet discount codes there. If you go back a few days on that thread, marq posted discounts for this light. Not sure if theyre still good codes.

Good luck! Peace:peace:

@Marq1340 just dropped some deals from Amazon again. Sometimes they don't last long, it's a good thread to keep an eye on. Amazon is fine for anonymity, they got those people running around like chihuahuas on crack, they don't have the time to care what is in the box or to whom it is being shipped, much the same for your mailman I'd wager.

I agree with @Tracker, the 4ft height will hurt you. I grow in a 2x2x4 because it fit well in my stealth location, height is a bitch. Moving locations and upgrading tent size for the next grow. Fuck stealth...LOL
[/QUOTE]
No way in hell you're stealth @Soul Dwella I've seen your pics.

I mean I guess there's levels to stealth, but a 2x2x4 in a storage spot under the stairs as opposed to a 6x6 in a bedroom is stealth to me. ;)

The Maxsisun lights are great. I bought a PB1000 Pro for my small veg tent (2x2x4).. & the 1st thing I realized I fucked up on was the 4' tent. The Blue Dream I started. Even after super cropped & scrooged.. well, it was still way to short of a tent saaaay to quick. So then I bought a Maxsisun PB1500 & a bigger tent (2x4x6). It was puuuurfect. Well.. now I even have my light all the way at the top. No Carabiners. & I'm out of room with that monster plant. Lol. But yes, these LED lights are grrrreeeaaat. They dont effect the electricity bill. & they grow BIG Buds! I have the AC Infinity system & its awesome. I have inkbirds controlling the R.H. & Temp. & a small heater & humidifier & dehumidifier hooked to to the it. needed. The AC Infinity makes it so easy it controls itself. I keep an eye on it but it keeps it at 77 during lights on & 69 at night when lights out. Pretty Sweet! I just started but having a ball. Good luck man.

If you're starting off & on a budget. I only do a 1 plant grow. So the lights that size work great for my situation, it seems. Welcome to RIU

i just got a LED for like 40 bucks off what the other's have said's thread there. 1200w equivalent. i have grown plants in a literal 2x2x2' space 12 12 light schedule start to finish.. they weren't huge but they smoked well and were just one bud lol, which everyone says is like not possible (it is). check ebay before you buy from amazon though, you can get an entire setup for around 200-250 from vivosun but i don't know how good their lights are. good luck brother

Have you thought about growing it outside? In the summer that's what I do. Then, while I know leds (good ones) work great nowadays, I still like metal halide and high pressure sodium. Hid lights are great in the winter, I dump the heat mine generate I to the house and garage. It helps keep the garage warmer and off sets the gas we use to heat inside. So win, for the plants and the utilities.

I would upgrade your mh to a new 600w dimmable, switchable, digital ballast and get a tent taller than four feet. I love 4x4z6.5 and 4x8x6.5 growing spaces. Inside either size you could grow vertically on the walls with trellising. And the lights hanging vertically in the center. Growing this way is a whole lot nicer on your knees.
Oh crud, I forgot you were trying to stay under 100 grams.... Well, I typed it all already so I'm leaving it now.
Good luck friend! And welcome to RIU!

Wow! Thank you for all of the replies, everyone!

I see that I will have to go with taller than 4ft. My last grows were LST, and I never used nearly 4 ft of space. Ill go with 6ft+.

I will also check that thread. I think im going to just go with a a LED setup.

With the versatility of these LEDs, they are good for veg and flower? I like to go 24hr light through veg, or at least like 20/4. Cut it back to trigger flowering.

Have you thought about growing it outside? In the summer that's what I do.
I have thought about it, and I even have a small 50ftx15ft wooded area in my yard. Lots of light. No privacy fence or anything yet, so maybe in the future.

The Maxsisun lights are great. I bought a PB1000 Pro for my small veg tent (2x2x4)....
Wow, thats incredibly affordable. Thanks for the recommendation. I'll read up more about it. Regarding the AC Infinity system, is that a whole cabinet, or just something you can attach to any tent? or, both? I just checked it out really quick, and the site seems to have a lot of stuff, but I like the idea of climate control.

Those buds are gorgeous btw.

Thanks again, to everyone, even those I didnt respond to directly.

And thank you all for the welcomes!

As a new grower just under 1 yr, i personally prefer LED lighting at least during the Summer because it's hot here.

I ran a 315 watt CMH and it was AMAZING in veg but it made my autos foxtail during flower, i just couldn't keep it high enough nor the canopy cool enough. I wana try CMH again in Winter. Oh and i was running a SunMaster 3850k bulb, i would try a Phillips 3100k next time.

And that's a LOWER bud, lol!

IMO the LED market is saturated with so many choices and almost all of them will "get you to work on time", and with varying but good reliability. You want a Honda? A Kia? Hell, even Hyundais are pretty nice nowadays; there's an LED equivalent of that. I personally like my Mars Hydro TSW 2000, it's like a nice Corolla with low miles, lol. Although too small for a 4x4, i caddy-corner it and just use a 3x3 space for now.

Yes. Get one that is full spectrum. Get at least 30w/sqft, but up to 50w/sqft. A lot of times the wattage listed on the first line of the advertisements for LEDs is bullshit. They say "equivalent power". You have to look closely at the description/specs to tell what is the actual power draw from the wall.

Great. Will do. Thank you for the tip. If you had $70-$100 to spend on a light, which would you pick for a 2x2x6ish? Right now Im looking at/watching the mentioned thread, looking at the recently added Focuslux 1000W. I'll be looking into soil and nutrients soon, so if you have any recommendations there, I'm all ears. I dont mind buying separate stuff for veg vs flower. Thanks for the tips!

I'm not familiar with autos, and had never heard of them until coming back here. I like to have the choice of when to flower, but I may try some autos at some point as they seem quick. Ive never used the MH, but one day when I dont have to hide my grows, I may move on to that. I'll probably go the LED route.

Regarding the Mars Hydro, I was looking at one a TSW 1000. Its good to see you have had some success with it. Thanks for the advice.

See if any of the latest codes for SUNRAISE qb2000 work. It really is perfect light for 2x2 that will get good distribution of light across the whole tent. You don't need different for veg and flower. I used to veg MH and flower HPS. These full spectrum LEDs will do one light all the way. You can do separate if you want to get one that leans more blue for veg and more red for bloom, but I don't do that anymore. The codes made it under $100 before. If not, try the codes for the light on this post:
