Add in some extra soil a few weeks before flowering?

Hi there,

Third time grower here this time going for a sea of green autos.

As weeks have gone by, the soil has sunk a bit (must have been very airy and soft in day 1), and I was wondering if I should add more soil for the plants and cover up the main steam?

I could add one inch of soil before hitting the youngest budding branches, does that even make sense? Some plants still need 3-4 weeks to flowering, others should need more like 7-8 weeks. Not sure if that extra inch of soil gives them more space to grow more roots or if at this stage it's already too late for that? They are still growing (veg) but also starting to bud.

I could even add about 2 inches of soil if I was to add soil up to below the first set of buds, covering the branches... not sure again if it's a bad idea as some plants would start growing roots even from the branches unless the bark's hard and dead already.

It won't hurt.. I add amended soil to mine..

The best way to add soil before the flip is lift the plant from the pot and put it under the roots
Room to expand then pack the sides ...viola

What herb said. I do the same thing. Sometimes adding soil to the top can suffocate the stock of a young plant depending on age and how much you add. However placing under will completely cancel that out and will actually give extra space and feed.

My stocks don't suffocate they grows more roots...

Well In that case you don't even need to worry about transplant. Just throw it at the bottom of the new container and fill with soil to the top? That's cool to know.

I'll top em up with some ewc/medium mix after the 'dust settles'
Next time, when filling the pot kinda pound it on the ground a bit to help get rid of air pockets in the container. Then fill it to the top and plant. It'll sink a bit still but end up just perfect. You don't want the soil sitting too far under the lip of the pot.

Thanks for your advice guys, it was too risky to turn upside down so I just added soil on top and it grew a bit more rooting, thought not sure how much one inch of soil really did in the end and so close to flowering, without a control group I guess we will never know.
