Day 36 of flower, estimate 84 days (12 weeks) in total so 48 more days (7 weeks).

The buds have been showing up since week 2, fast maturing plants.

.

The buds are airy as yet, but they show great promise for growing bigger and filling out.

I've got 3 distinct phenos of the 4 plants. The two plants in the back have wide spacing between the nodes and larger buds. The plant in the front left is much shorter than the other three plants, maybe 8". Lots of leaves and small tight buds. The plant in the front right is the most interesting, split nodes and buds reaching for the one above. I think this will be the biggest producer.

.

From the top you can see how the leaves are growing back 2 weeks after the second defoliation.

I've got an idea to win the next Scorpion Diablo contest, I have to collect pictures of this top bud throughout the grow.

I've been having some heat issues with one of my four plants, pinwheeling on my sugar leaves. Plant on the right, front.

6 weeks in, 6 weeks to go. The buds are filling out but not getting heavy yet.

3 of the four plants look like they're from the same strain, but the plant on the left front is 8" shorter and a few shades of green darker. It's already forming buds from the bottom of the cola to the top but the buds aren't large, I'm not expecting a huge yield from this plant.

If you look carefully you can see the curling leaves:

At first I thought it was finger tipping - too much fertilizer - but I'm not having any trouble on any of the other 3 plants.

I think it's heat stress but there's no canoeing of the leaves.

Any thoughts?

Wow, those are some beautiful colas!

Especially the first pic, looks covered in sugar.

When are you going to harvest?

I germinated 4 Serious Happiness seeds last week and they all sprouted like gems. The seedling in the rear right side had some trouble shedding her shell and is a day behind the other three.

The other 3 are growing perfect.

I'm going to clone these four Happiness plants and use the best producer to do a test on defoliation. Four clones: 1 clone not touched at all; the second clone lollipoped; the third clone lollipoped and swazeed once on day 1 of flower; the fourth clone lollipoped and swazzeed twice, once at day 1 of flower and once at day 21 of flower.

I took a leap of faith when I adopted this growing method, and I haven't been let down yet.

Day 44

I don't notice the change myself, because I see the plants a half dozen times a day, but from comparing pics, the buds are starting to fill out .

This picture shows the downside to swazzee, not as many leaves mid flower and leaf damage is very visible.

I can't wait to see the weight Happiness puts out, it might be the 1000 gram grow I've been working towards.

The short plant on the left could be a different stain it's so different than the other 3 plants.

when do you cut off all your fan leaves? The plants look beautiful. Just not use to seeing a plant with no fan leaves. But I’m a super beginner on his second grow.

Ern I defoliate on days 1 and 21 of flower, I adopted from Black Dog LED who has lots of videos on growing.

It's suppose to increase yield but there are only guesses as to why it does, if it does. More light to the bud sites, airflow through the plant, plant response to heavy pruning.

I'm going to run a defoliation comparison in two grows when I have Serious Happiness clones, I'd like to get a scientific test around Christmas. Takes some planning ahead.

gotta say hobbes, i was linked to this thread by another poster, and i really appreciate the effort and knowledge being put out here. i love that you detail the step by step process for us new growers, in terms that are easy to understand. thanks a lot! i am currently running my first grow with two phytomax-2 LED's (a 400w and a 600w) and two 315w CMH's, and i'm really looking forward to being to compare the results between the types of light in the different rooms. cheers and thanks again!

Hiya Hobbes! I've been gone for a while but I remembered you were growing Kali Mist this round (and so am I) so I thought I'd come check them out. I haven't posted in months due to health issues (breakthrough Covid took a lot out of me), but I'll be back soon with a thread to review the Medic Grow Fold 8 along with the strains I'm currently growing. This grow was not perfect, my AC died on the day it hit 109 here and all of my plants were damaged, though my KM made it out with just a bad case of taco leaves and it didn't seem to slow down bud formation. My Serious Happiness had extensive leaf die off, but I'm still impressed with the yield potential of that plant. I decided to do ZERO defoliation this time, and I think it saved my plants-after the leaves died off the top portion of my plants, it exposed all the leaves towards the middle/bottom that I usually trim and now they are carrying the plant. I would get a better pic now but it's night time for the girls and this is the only one I have-this is six weeks into 12/12.IMG_20210823_055100010.jpg
This Kali Mist is a shorty-front right-maybe due to the individual plant or possibly from mainlining her. Serious Happiness is back right-you can hardly see it, but it took extremely well to mainlining, the buds are developing nicely despite the extensive leaf damage and the buds are nice and sticky/frosty. Front/back left are Old School Genetics from Spain. I'm going to do a separate thread on them, but for now I will just say, they are my new favorite breeder. I just ordered two more strains from them and will do a proper grow diary with 4 of their strains next round-also to show people the Fold 8 in action with healthy plants all the way through.

I caught Covid the day before I flipped to 12/12, so along with the heat disaster, I really neglected these girls for 3 weeks during stretch and the Kali Mist took it like a champ. Do yours have that yummy spicy smell?
