Peer reviewed study: Pot = Heart Attacks

More reefer madness. More propaganda

Article:

Full paper:

The person who wrote the article didn't even bother to read the study.

1. Contrary to the alleged quote, it EXPLICITLY says that the increased odds of a heart attack for people who vape or ingest is NOT STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT. Only statistically significant increased risk was for smokers. Would have taken the author 5 minutes to verify this. Site is a joke.
From the study:

"Although a similarly elevated odds of history of MI was observed across methods of recent cannabis consumption, only smoking as a primary method achieved statistical significance."

2. What's even worse is that in the "Limitations" section the study authors say:

"We were unable to differentiate between participants who began using cannabis before having an MI, and those who began using cannabis after having an MI."
That's a pretty big limitation. They do some hand waiving to claim that there conclusions are still "plausible," but the study (like most studies covered in the press) is obviously junk. I don't care one way or another whether marijuana causes heart attacks but this study doesn't say what the article claims it does re vaping and eating and is, in any event, total garbage.

3.The cherry on top is this line:

"Cannabis users were more likely to be male, unmarried, cigarette as well as e-cigarette smokers and heavy alcohol drinkers, the data showed."

If that logic was followed half the stuff on the first page of this section wouldn’t exist. It’s just a conversation like any other
Im not sure if you mean the shit that I post, but Jan 6th and everything that the Republicans have been doing since has pretty well validated it all.

It's not the pot, it's the endless number of whoppers, big macs and buckets of chicken all these morbidly obese young people eat these days that lead to heart problems.
I completely agree. I can’t help but compare the sudden concern for public health, acceptance of mandates limiting what you can do or where you can work, and must-do actions for the good of the nation with concerns to Covid-19.

There is a very vocal segment of the population, including elected officials, openly criticizing and shaming those that by choice, are harming the rest of society. I wonder where medical science stops, and body shaming/acceptance begins in current culture.

You wanna talk about

*selfishness
*lack of care for the environment and global warming
*contributing factor to diminished workplace productivity/early retirement/missed days
*healthcare costs and the cost of insurance
*a completely avoidable danger (for the most part* I can recognize certain medical conditions but that’s a fraction of the population)
*Child abuse (when kids are overweight)

Point the finger firmly at the obese.

Or point the finger at no one:o

either way it’s a mind fuck

Food is broken from every angle in the US and if you ever want to see people do crazy shit, starve 'em.
Personal responsibility and the effort one makes to educate themselves is a huge factor. The information is out there, and eating healthy is in fact cheaper than eating fast food every day

Your point about food being broken rings true though, as a similar scenario is playing out in Mexico. There is an epidemic of diabetes as the diet has rapidly changed in just two generations compared to what people ate for hundreds of years. Coca Cola is more common than water at the table there now

I love how this thread turned into fat shaming.

Fat people are not passing a deadly disease onto other people.

It is a bummer then that the Republicans have been blocking child nutrition bills for decades while waging culture wars when the Democrats try to get healthy food introduced into kids daily diets.

Cheap high caloric food is far cheaper than healthy food. Also the availability of it is just messed up, you can't drive anywhere in this country without passing (many) somewhere(s) that you can get a couple thousand calories for a couple bucks. Hell filling up in a gas station you end up across from a fast food drive through and have all kinds of candy and other junk piled on the counter as you pay.

All of the susbsidizing of sugar and meat has flooded our nation with super cheap super unhealthy food.

It just depends what kind of country you want. Do you want a shithole where people are eating each other for profit, just so you can wear a "HUNNERT % FREE" hat?

-Wait but that’s the only thing that matters and gives them a pass for all the other negative effects on society? In the other thread you asked someone if they are antivax/anti science, are you anti proper diet/anti science?

admittedly when I read the article on the subject of heart attacks and protecting the public from itself, my first thoughts gravitated toward “what about obesity” and then when someone posted that it was a natural response

-I mean, how well has the department of education done teaching children morals? Or even basic English? They’re gonna teach kids how to eat? You’re saying the parent doesn’t hold the responsibility and instead defer to the boogeyman Republicans hindering Democrat utopia? Too easy, it’s a societal issue deeper than politics.

-Sorry but rice/pasta /beans/lentils/noodles

ground beef, chicken, tuna, pork, eggs, milk

Veges and fruit fresh/frozen/canned

+ eating the right portions, is not any more expensive than buying this unhealthy food you’re referring to. What does a family of 4 spend on one dinner at McDonald’s?

Guess theirs 2 threads about this but if I die from a heart attack which I’m sure it’s a way a lot of us will go. This will rank number 2 as the way to go. Smoking a big blunt. Just falling short to number 1 having a heart attack while on top of the ole lady riding away
