Thank god.
At some point I must have miscommunicated. I have no opinion on the quality of Canadian outdoor weed; I have never been to Canada.
Growing outdoors is not very appealing in general where the plant is illegal, even if conditions are good. You can't grow at scale and there is a big risk of your plants getting stolen or destroyed. It's also usually not possible to tend to the plants as one would want to, because of remote locations or the need for discretion; every visit bears a risk.
Now in Canada there is much less of that risk, and no real need to grow guerilla-style, but ironically conditions are rather poor. Late onset of flowering and early frosts at the same time... ouch.
I guess I would have to re-read my postings to find out where I said something to the account of "outdoor weed is the solution for Canada"; that's absurd.
I have lived in Australia for about a year, 20 years ago. When I was looking for a room, during one of the interviews the girl said "by the way, we're growing marijuana in our back yard, I hope you don't mind". I didn't end up moving in there, and I didn't look at the plant, but it was apparently not outrageous back then to grow some flower. Genetics were probably sub-par, since it was 20 years ago and Australia is quite a far ways from Dutch breeders.
I don't know about the Australian penalties and the amount of heat they put on growers, but I think the low quality of the bud over there is more due to the poor availability of good genetics. In Europe it doesn't really matter much if you're in a "super illegal" country or one of the lax ones, because Netherlands and Spain are so close, and it's therefore very easy to get your hands on prime seeds, anytime.
Growing out the flowers is easy enough when you have the seeds -- at least if you don't have to maximize for yield and the best possible bag appeal at the same time. That's definitely not necessary around here, there are more than enough customers to buy what you would call "mid-range" (true ditch-weed and stuff with additives in it exists, too, but it's probably getting less due to so many people growing indoors nowadays).
You weren't wrong about anything you said.
What happened was, you (and I) struck a nerve. In an already saturated market, we are sharing our opinion that it will get WORSE for Canada growers. That causes the comfort zone to be intruded and the lashing out begins. As if you have to be somewhere to understand anything. I have been in Canada plenty, it wasnt necessary to see the future
The other difficulty is understanding when a bit hot like that, that you and I are on their side. We dont want or like what's happening, but what's the point of the discussion, not to hurt anyones feelings or to discuss something?
It is his lack of understanding of what is right below...the Midwest. The worlds most fertile farmland, currently growing crops that grow in identical conditions as cannabis. Sure California and now Oregon and Washington are further along...but that is because their laws are more liberal. California has had medical use cannabis for 26 years. It started there, I even have family that was involved in creating the act.
That is due to the politics of the region. The midwest, where all the farmland is, is mostly still illegal - totally. It is changing, but for now it is controlled politically in order to send the $$$ to the politicians friends. I'm sure that is no different than anywhere else.
How did things go in Canada when Michigan, on the border to Canada, went fully legal? I bet that hurt the market, didnt it?
As I mentioned...right now, the USA has multiple laws and Acts that pay farmers not to grow. If that sounds crazy...there are reasons, but in some cases to keep prices stable. The farmers themselves would go broke if they all grew as much as they wanted to.
So it has not happened yet. The REAL glut. When every state, and federally it is legal in the USA. And every person that wants to grow does.
Our govt is well aware what will happen when that goes down...so they slow walk all of it.
Why is this relevant? Because the thread is about Canadian weed having zero value. It is harsh, I hate that it has come down like this, but I get everything being said.
It will get worse, much worse. If you dont want to cross the border to sell NOW...just wait until the profit in the US is taken out completely.
Outdoor...hey, it will be what it will be. Greenhouses are going up in all the legal US states already.
All I am saying is...when you look at Washington and Oregon, where the glut has been created purposefully -- liberal laws allowing huge amounts to be grown..
The inevitable occurs...the market floor drops out. The only reason it hasnt gone like that in every state is because of legality and politics.
If we had the laws of Canada...can you see where this is going? If Canada is saturated now, and the US decriminalizes it and allows LP style grows....what happens to the market?
I think that is what we said, there were no personal attacks made. I like a good discussion. I realize my thoughts are not "right" or somehow smarter. They are just my views.
