Recovering fraudulent or abused unemployment insurance?

Where are all the workers? Here in Massachusetts there isn't a business to be found that doesn't need employees. I mean the help wanted signs are just about everywhere. Fast food restaurants closing at 8:00 even though they're offering $17.00 or $18.00 per hour which is $4.00 above our minimum wage. (Not a living wage) Higher end restaurants are keeping tables empty because they don't have the staff. Even the trades can't find help. I really don't understand. Are there that many people still sucking at the teat of unemployment? Are people still getting unemployment insurance due to covid? Here in Mass you have to call three places a week to receive your unemployment. I'm sure it's not appropriate but somewhere along the line we should attempt to recover money's paid to people who are not entitled to it. I personally know of a self-employed carpenter he who got a check in excess of $25,000 for claiming he could only find work for a couple days for a week. The fact is he was lying through his teeth. Who even knew there was pandemic unemployment insurance designed for people who don't fit the profile of the usual claimants and they could get fat lump sums? Both my wife and I got letters indicating we had applied for unemployment and that we needed to fill out additional forms. Well neither my wife or I applied for unemploymen so fraud is rampant and shouldn't be forgiven. People who were entitled to unemployment should have gotten it and they probably should have gotten additional subsidies. Millions and millions of people needed unemployment to survive but gimme a break. My spouse and I received a single check for $600. Apparently we made too much to qualify. The fact is the more money you make the more debt you have and I know surer than shit that we didn't have a fat savings account to pay our mortgage and car payments and the rest of it. We were caught between the needy and the wealthy. Is this not an appropriate time to say "Get A Job"

Yeah right who wants to work with the public for a couple bucks above minimum wage when the idiot MAGA crowd are running around trying to make everyone's lives hell because they got radicalized online to think it is ok troll everyone and everything.

And that is before you even get to the anti vaccine cultists that are even more dangerous to everyone they come in contact with.

Sorry that your fast food is taking so long though, it must suck.

I was always under the impression that unemployment insurance is, just that, insurance, that you pay into with YOUR OWN money. Am I incorrect?

Op can't get his fast food, he thinks it's because of unemployment. The evidence of which is a self employed friend that took advantage of the system.

I would actually be really interested to see a good study on a breakdown of who got what assistance, and related fraud stuff. My guess is that a bunch of failures at business exploited the system as a bailout. For fucks sake, you are complaining teenagers won't make you burgers.

actually as an owner of a business and having employees it’s the employer that pays into the workers unemployment insurance. We also have to pay more into it if a claim is paid out and now our rates have increased so the state gets their monies back on all of this they have been paying out. So go us small buisiness guys. It hurts pretty bad

But it is still a percentage of what you pay them right? I think in Michigan it is like 7% of the wages paid up to $10k(?) might be a little off, but that is about $700 maxed out.

Is it much different than health insurance?

I get that getting a bill sucks, and do think that there should be new hire exemptions (to a point) so that employers can hire more people and have the ability to pick the best fitting employees. But it really is just part of the wages/bills that those employees are being paid at the end of the day no?

Anyways I do appreciate that UE sucks, but to the employers pissy about nobody wanting to work for them and pretending it is because they want to bring home those unenjoyment dollars with everything going on, I think they need to do some real soul searching.

here it works out to about 3000 a year what we have to pay in per employee. It is a percentage of their pay max is 9k a year. The first quarter I noticed it went from $3000 a quarter we pay in on the first quarter the year before to $4500 the first quarter of 2021. So I can tell the state wants its money back that they have payed out during the pandemic even though we didn’t have any claims but see the rates went up. Not complaining about people in general just if the states gonna pay all this extra unemployment they shouldn’t come after all the business to get their money back. So it’s a bitch and whine session over this suck hole state

It sucks that the state Republicans there don't accept the federal help when it is given, I do feel for you all down there.

Yeesh, I just checked Abbott stopped that extra federal aid back in May.

it's already been looked into; there's a huge mismatch where people live to jobs available. some have decided not to go back. some are moving on to a different industry. a friend of mine upped his computer skills with another certificate. anyone who has worked white collar isn't looking for blue collar. many mothers that were in the workforce have decided to stay home with their kids and FIND SOMETHING NEW from home. if it's contracting it won't move the unemployment meter.

if you worked at a desk you're not working in a field..if you worked in a coal mine, you may have to answer phones now.

PS the red states that refused to take the federal money for their citizens on UI- results are back..that little forced move caused ONLY 1 in 10 to find a job and just kept your people poorer.

you stupid, stupid hillbillies!

Joe Manchin needs to come out of the closet and just confess he's a republican.
