cover it with plastic. go up the walls a few inches with it. use one big piece. spill as much water as you want. just mop it up with a towel.

Buy a silver tarp, make a pond shape with it, and reflect some light up. A tarp is a lot better than plastic because it won't rip or puncture--so when you do get a spill--and you will--it will hold the water.

i used painters plastic the thicker kind its cheap and works great then u still carpet when ur done growing but definley go like 3 inches up on the wall cus hydro or soil there will some accidental overflows

those tubs for clothes that are low and ment to be stored under your bed are nice...and i've thought about this but haven't tried it yet, but a hard plastic kiddie pool, its a nice size and shape for round pots

Totally a bad idea unless you re-tack the strips along the cut line. If not then you're just asking for the carpet to pull up.

A threshold is the kiss of death?

Laminate floor in the closet, carpet it room and a threshold? Makes sense to me. threshold can hold down the carpet and be the transition to the laminate. Done.

Yes a threshold will work. That is why they have tacks on them =)
You made no mention of this. You only said to cut it all up =) Nor did you make mention of laminate.

By why make yourself sweat when 2 dollars in plastic will do the trick =)

I have heard to use pond liner. It will definately not allow any water to get to the carpet.

If it's plush carpet with pad, then it would probably be best to rip it out.
But if it's indoor/outdoor glued down or even a low pile berber, you could take some plastic sheeting and cover it.
Then put some laminate flooring down, or put some 2X2 foam pads down.

If you do this, one things for sure....your room will be warm as hell.

Just don't spill....there's no need to rip up carpet if you aren't a sloppy grower.....a simple tarp or plastic would work I don't use anything...even though I probably should take the added precaution.

sorry about bringing up this older thread again but i was just out at walmart and saw theses emergency ponchos that are all highly reflective. they look like they are ponchos made of thin aluminum. anyone see these there in the camping/outdoor section. would these be good to use on the floor in my grow closet to reflect light up or would these be bad cuz they might cause hot spots and could burn my plants

I'm setting up a 2nd story room for flowering.. it's right above the garage. I live in So Cal Deserts where it's 110 in summer and 60 in winter. I'd like to rip out the carpet but im worried heat might transfer through the floorboards from the garage a little easier without the carpet+mat barrier. I will be enclosing the room with a plastic/poly bubble.. What should I use to seal the wood floorboards from accidental moisture through the pastic incase of accident? Do you think my room will be hotter without the carpet? Thanks
