Tapping the shoulder of my DWC/RDWC cohorts.
As said in another post, I'm returning to DWC. With a more powerful light than my previous grows I'm tossing back and forth getting a chiller. I didn't use one(don't own one they're expensive) when I was growing in the garage, and this early summer's heat killed 3 of my 5 girls. I saved the last two by moving the tents inside, and changing them to coco.
I was wondering if anyone is single site DWC, indoors, under 400w(395w actual usage) of LED, or similar setup, having high heat issues in the reservoir. Any advice appreciated.

Move the res outside the tent and do a flood drain. Still need to go sterile and use bleach or a similar product if your not using a chiller.

Put a medium in some buckets and pump water into the buckets every so often. Water drains back to the res.

If you insulate your res a decent amount, or just do something to keep the light away from it and use air from the outside that is decent temps you can go dwc with a sterile res without much problem.

I was afraid maybe I was a little too specific. My bins are the black 7.5 gal sterilite, with the yellow lid from Walmart. I've blocked the light through the lid with reflective ducting tape but didn't know if wrapping it would help. We keep the house between 70 and 80f. I didn't think that could keep temps in an acceptable range after running right m through an aerator.

So when I ran dwc I say I ran sterile-ish. I never added anything like bleach or pool shock. Educate me, please. How does that stuff effect Ph? The best I've got is filtered tap or rain(whenever it rains again) what concentrations are we looking at? Will a ppm pen be sufficient? I know it's not EC just haven't got one yet. How does the chlorine effect the plants? Can you taste it when it's done. Does it have an affect on someone with a bleach allergy?

There is no effect on taste on final product. There is no effect on ph. You are only adding a very small amount. I have a 10 gallon res and that requires 0.1g every 2 days. 0.1g is nothing.

If you have a bleach allergy tho. Not sure you want to use it. Impossible not to inhale a lil of the bleach smell.

My res does not smell bleachy after a dose. Gotta keep dosing tho or bad stuff will grow.

My wife is the one with the allergy. I just wanted to be sure she would be ok. So where should I look for a good resource?

I got mine from Wal-Mart. The last week or 2 you can just not add it if you are worried.
I wasn't taking about a source of bleach Walmart, Aldi's... yeah got that. I was talking about a resource on how to use bleach in hydro.

You're taking, what, 10 drops? 5 drops?

Here's the best resource for mixing your own Pool Shock solution. https://www.rollitup.org/t/how-to-operate-a-sterile-hydroponic-system.849475/
I used 25 gram of the powdered pool shock to 1 gallon of distilled water to create my stock solution. I can't remember if if was the 65% type or some other percentage. I dose it at 1 ml for every gallon of solution in my reservoir. I do not use a chiller, I don't deal with organics and I become quite aggressive with it when the temps in my reservoir goes above 75 degrees Fahrenheit. I use it 3 times a week (pretty much every other day) and I have yet to see any negative effect. Otherwise, I dose twice a week.

OK. Just found the one I used. Mine was the 3 shock with 52% calcium hypochlorite. Different numbers have different crap added to them that I am7114Ucj9JJL._AC_SL1500_.jpg not sure is OK.7114Ucj9JJL._AC_SL1500_.jpg
