Very nice, do you ever get problems with them being so close together? Or are you in a pretty arid part of CA?

What Part of California is wet?

The entire state is dry as dirt this year. Worst in record. So mold/rot shouldn be in any Cali outdoor this year.

Northern California along the coast has been very foggy. 90+% humidity every night, I've been battling mold all year.

I forgot that place existed lmfao. I think Oregon and Washington when I think about the north coast. I forgot Cali is technically apart of that. Yeah. I can imagine it gets pretty gross up there. I lived in jax Florida a bit. Same shit. Hot and gross

Sonoma. Yes they are too close together. There are 5 in the ground. In that space 3 would have been fine. No mold and down to the last few weeks. Gelato likes humidity, may want to try it out by the ocean.

Awesome, thanks for the heads up. A quick search shows Gelato has GSC as a parent. I found out this year GSC crosses are great in humidity.

I have two friends who grow and both have already lost plants to rot in SoCal this season. Neither is sure why.

I tried growing watermelons a few years back but when I harvested the inside was rotted. Did some research and found out that the rot happens if the plant roots dry out too much. I have a theory that bud rot in SoCal might happen when the plants dry out too much, like the watermelons.

SoCal. Worms cause rot. And why are they letting ground soil get that dry? They have a water tap. Just because we don’t have rain doesn’t mean don’t have water lol

One it was def a fungal issue. Probably root rot. Once flower started it wilted from the bottom up and then died. It was a 7 foot tall monster that had been growing since Jan. Not sure what happened to the other friends plant.

The temp got to 117 here this summer and nearly every day two months straight was over 100. Last week it was 105 with 9% humidity outdoors. I grow with fabric pots sitting on cement, so it gets crazy hot at the root zone and can dry out. So if it gets too hot the plants can dry out and wondering if that later leads to rot. In the past, I have had rot every other year outdoors watering just once a day. This year I have been watering twice each day and no rot so far so fingers crossed.

I could be wrong about the theory. But after hearing about the watermelons it got me thinking and wondering if the drying out could cause the rot later.

You can’t let your roots get that hot
During that span I watered 3-4 times a day. But I grow no till in ground. So life’s pretty easy battling against high temps. It’s winds that’s kick my ass.
