Can I just dry and crush male pods to use?

Is there any reason not to just use the whole pod to pollinate buds instead of tapping pollen out onto a piece of paper to collect?

I’ve reversed some clones but so far they’re opening but not dropping anything I can tell.

Take a few and gently crush near the buds you want to pollinate. Rub them all over the pistils. You’ll get more than enough seeds to make you happy.

Maybe they are shooting blanks.

Empty pollen sac are usually a result of over spraying (CS or STS). While you don't see it, there may still be some. Just let mother nature do it's thing and let it work. Once they start opening, you can collect some with tweezers, let them dry, then sift them through a small fine sift onto a plate. You don't have to collect a lot. Pollen is extremely potent. Once it's dried, I mix it 1 part pollen to 25 parts flour. Some people go up to 100 parts flour. The flour helps it go further, and helps keep it dry. Fresh off the plant, it'll mold in a day if you put it in a baggie and close it up. Even at 1:25, I've never missed pollinating my girls.

The biggest seed run I had I put the pollen in a large zip lock bag, shook it up, then stroked the colas hard 3 or 4 times like I was jerking off a donkey, then I moved to the next branch. I got 24k seeds out of it. It might look like you don't have any in the bag, but it's there. Overkill I know, but I still have some seeds in the deep freeze for the big sleep. And yes, it's a special strain (for me). Because I had so many, I was able to experiment with them. I broadcasted them loose, broadcast and step on them, made seed balls (what a disappointment), all sorts of ways to plant lots at one time.

You can do that... wait until the prefered "male pod" starts to open, (it does have to be at least partially open), then gently remove from the plant, and slightly pinch the very top part, (where it was connected to the plant), between your thumb and index finger, while softly rubbing it back and forth. You can't smash the whole thing, just slightly manipulate the top, and pollen should come out from the opened area. When you take it off the plant, it might seperate, just do the same thing to each individual "banana" if that happens.

I was definitely over spraying. I had been told to make sure to keep it up the whole time or you’ll get sterile pods. I quit spraying them last week and they’re looking better now, they kinda seemed soggy before.


i found a pod that had fallen off today and smashed it and there was definitely a small amount of pollen.

Lol 24k seeds is insane.

Nice! Collect them and dry them in a dish. Obviously you want to put it in a spot with no air movement like a cupboard.

If I saw a few flowers opening like that, I'd cut the branch off and put it on a plate. The branch will still live and the pods will still mature for 3-5 days. A light tapping every couple days will release the pollen so it'll dry on the plate for a few more days on it's own. On that note, I've never seen sterile pollen.

When you're ready to collect, put a small dish of flour in your oven at at 175 for an hour. This will completely dry the flour.

1. Gently use a credit card to make a little pile of pollen on one side of the plate.
2. Scoop little dried flour, about 10 times the size of your pollen pile, on the other side of the plate.
3. Gently mix both piles.
That should give you loads of pollen to use.

I use small centrifuge tubes and keep it in a freezer. This was mixed 1:20 (Pollen:Flour).

I sold a lot because selling pollen isn't illegal (yet). lol.

thinking of breeding soon. Would this be a good method to get a cross with little phenotypical variation?:

Grow female
grow male
collect pollen
pollinate female
collect seeds
germinate seeds
self pollinate best female(s) from cross

?

Ah.... Getting a stable girl is a multi year project, beyond my skillset, available space and time. I reversed a super nice GG4 once and out of 30 plants, I got a mess of phenos. That was fun because I got a fantastic Diesel like keeper, but lost it the next year because I wasn't paying attention. :(

Been many years since I jerked off a donkey myself. Just regular white bleached flour?

Ideally when the pods start opening up they start dumping pollen. That looks like you're going to have to work for it.
