Wonder if this would be good in a 3x3

Do it. Then if you want to expand the area you're already covered at least partly. Better to have it and not need it than wish you'd gone big.
May get the fc4800 try it out. Upgrade tent later to 4x4 maybe that will help with a little excess heat and get that hlg300l and do a run in the 3x3 and compare notes

Im up and running with my new set up. Still using cheap lights but plan to upgrade to a hlg 260 for my 3x3. I put the seed in soil 8 days ago and this is the progress so far. Is this average growth rate it should they be further along?
Looks about right to me. Popped these a week ago today as a reference.

A mars fc-3000 would be a good start for a 3x3. The bar lights provide a more even footprint imo.

Looks about right. Yeah they say 3x3 the fc3000 but if you look at the specs on Mars on the 4800 on the 3x3 footprint I think rather have that one. I have enough starter lights to start a grow shop

I hadn't checked the exact sizes but was running the assumption a 4800 didn't fit a 3x3, and if it does that's nice to know. I would go for it simply for future proofing. I feel you on spending once. I have far too many 120w quantum boards and 2x4 tents. I should have gone a 5x5 and a decent light from the get go and so much time and money would have been saved.

I know the feeling and yeah it’s only like 32x32 if I converted mm correctly

Weigh a pot of fresh soil so you know when to water. Water when it feels light, real light. Heres your roots at two weeksF319EA3C-BB83-4519-AE1F-0C878732B810.jpeg
