Leggo ....... Just for u I put together a step by step cloning technique with pix that will work well in ur system. Simple, no maintenance, effective and easy. Im going to go copy and paste it in here.

Here it is:

Alright posted this in my current grow project thread and thought it may be more usefull here.... Im going to track this everyday and then put together a step by step pictorial on transplanting to DWC. Hope it helps...

OK Just got done taking 2 cuttings ( 2 lower stems about 4-5 inches long ). Took these cuttings from plant of what i was told was durban poison and what i believe after researching pix on the internet...

Im cloning these cuttings simply by cutting the bottom of the stem @ a 45 degree angle, lightly scraping off the bottom 1/2 inch outer "skin" lol.... This time im dipping 1 cutting in superthrive and one cutting in rooting compound from dro sto...Only to try to ensure these things take cuz im out of seeds lol, and want to see which works better!

After I cut, scraped and dipped I placed the cuttings in a cup with a half inch of plain tap water and into my veg spot in the corner under an old cool blue aquatic strip light i had laying around, also in indirect cfl lighting as well.
I will change the water out every day with my tool also pitured below just another dro sto gadget that i put a lil tube on the end of so i dont have to bother the clones or move um.

I dont usually dip cuttings in anything and have had them develope root bumps within 2 days so we shall see how this works. The last time i dipped i think it prolonged root structure growth.

Anyhow its sunday im going to track this daily.

Day 42:
Sorry its been a few days (busy weekend)... but have good news to report!

Growth spurt has started!

Above is the last pic took and today's, more than an inch (maybe 2) and much bigger, perkier leaves. Just look where 'Sway' was then & now... And most of this growth happened in the last two (2) nights!!

Noticed the reservoir is about gallon lower than it was a few days ago.

Also, had to peek at the roots after a few days... Fox's are nice and long, while (i think) Sway has one HUGE clusterf**k of root/knot...

What could have been the cause for the growth-spurt to finally happen??
-It was just time?
-Reservoir change
-Changing water level from 1" below pots to touching (getting roots INTO the water)?
-I was gone a good bit of Saturday, and left the closet door closed.. more light/humid/temp?
-They were happy Franky's gone

The only bad news is that Fox and Jane are losing/have lost their 2nd set of leaves at the bottom... :-/

Aww man, i'm new to this forum, just been browsing the web looking for some info on LED lights and i stumbled upon your thread leggo and it took me back to my first grow!

I'm gutted that this isn't an old thread and i can't read through to the end. It's like watching Lost or 24, you just gotta keep reading, lol!

Boy do i remember the stress, the worry, the pain when my girls were sick! You really got some grief from some idiots early on, totally uncalled for. All credit to DL for sticking with you though. Way to go man!!

Now, i haven't grown in a while and am just getting my kit together to start up again, hopefully you guys'll stay tuned and watch how i go. But more of that later!

As for your last set of Q's the answer is All of the Above!

Basically it's a culmination (big word for a stoner) of events that have lead to the roots getting into the water and the plants realizing it!

Leave things as they are just now, let your girls do their thing, you might need to take the HPS up a bit as the tops get closer to it - basically put your hand (palm down) at the level with the top of your leaves and if you can feel the heat (warm = ok, heat = bad) on the back of your hand you should move the HPS up a tad, (BTW, I like the use of the CFL's tho, the blue light helps keep them from stretching too much and the HPS gives them most of what they need.)

Keep an eye on the water level and if all's going well in a few days, when you need to top up you could go to 1/2 strength.

Also keep an eye on the pH, as the plants use the nutes they use certain chemicals and leave others behind and can fuck around with the pH so just watch out for that.

All seems to be going well for you at the mo dude, especially after such a shaky start!

Oh man, i can't wait for the next episode!

Kind and encouraging words their sir +rep!

Glad you can pull up a seat, I really hope its all uphill from here, but who knows. I just think I'm finally over that poor start...

I just topped with another gall today, so water is just at the bottom of the pots again... after that I think I'll let them drop a bit, and keep it about 1" below.

Next time I top though, I think I may go 1/2 nutes, we'll just see how they are by then...

I always keep a good watch on pH... its a little high right now, as I got to get pH down today. I first had a little squeeze bottle from 'API' (1-2 drops/gallon) that worked good... then when that ran out I got a big bottle from 'Top Fin" but bigger bottle just eant bigger dosages (5-10ml/gallon!)
So that bottle just barely made past my res change (my tap water is around 7.6-8.0) so I have to use a good bit of 'down' during water changes...

sorry for the tangent.

if ph down is your problem you can try your growing hand at making some. its a money saver for people with high ph'ed water.

Wooooooooooah! I wouldn't be taking to much from that website to heart!!! The companies that make our nute solutions spend £$£$£$£ in R&D on what's best for our plants and homemade solutions can be extremely unpredictable to say the least, dangerous at the other end, and not just for the plants. Some of the chemicals mentioned on that page are NASTYNASTYNASTY. If you want my advice, and i am a proper, qualified, 18 years experience chemist STAY WELL CLEAR OF THEM. Even commercially available solutions like pH up & down should be treated with the utmost care. pH Down is generally Orthophosphoric acid which is EXTREMELY corrosive, especially to organic (Live) tissue, and pH UP, generally Hydroxides as equally as nasty at the other end of the spectrum. If you're on a very VERY tight budget, and just so happen to have all of these chemicals lying around, AND you have all the safety equipment, AND you know what you're doing then go for it! BUT, and it's a BIG but, most of these things you won't happen to have in your cupboard so you'll have to go buy them. You'll only need a few grams and most of them only come in big 200g or 1Kg tubs so they will cost an absolute fortune. And don't forget the NASTY factor. Please please don't even consider messing around with these, by all means, use some lemon Juice if it's a public holiday weekend, all the hydro shops are closed, you have no £££ and you simply MUST change your nutes today and you have to bring the pH down right now but really, just go buy the professionally manufactured stuff. It's got directions on the bottle and everything! God, do i sound like Mr Sensible schoolteacher, or what!

OK, rant over!

Time for me to ask some questions:

1) How tall are your ladies now?
2) When are you planning on switching to 12/12?
3) Did you ever paint your cupboard white?
4) Yours is a 150w HPS, Right? How far above the girls is it at the moment?

Nuff said,

Time for a toke. Peace.

blackthorn is right for the most part. when working with chemicals please be safe and diy's can be unpredictable. i have been making my own ph down for my soil plants outside for a long while and have had great results myself. i didnt go with the homemade ph down on the dwc grow because it is my first so wanted a more controled substance but rest assure that when i have this down i will be implimenting my homemade stuff. but im a very big diy girl and to each their own. good things good things.

1: Fox (the tallest) is at 6" but that is the tip of the leaves, the stalk is about 5.5"

2: The plan is to veg to 12" then top back to 7"-8" (giving me a 4"-5" clone/plant) then veg back 12" where I would start flower

3: No, it is still the light mint green color

4: Yeah it is a 150HPS... right now it is about 7"-8" or so I'd say (give or take) I found that I could have it as close as 4" and 8" is about as far as I should have it. But right now the light is fixed, and I try and move the plants closer/further... but with 11 gallons of water, a bit hard to move LOL. I have stuff underneath the DWC to remove to lower everything once plants get taller...

Oh yeah, I wasn't jumping into anything with the home brew pH down... I'll see what's out there, if anything I'll just go back to what I was using first, seemed to work okay

Hey Dl. Thanks!

Yeah, the stuff I mentioned earlier that i did use was for the aquarium... forgot to mention it was from the Dro Sto...

Actually, just looking at their website... I might as well get this stuff, its cheaper than what I use for the aquarium LOL... whoops.

tweek.

Plants are doing good, pics later today...

Though I have been thinking... I don't believe I am going to top/clone this round. I would clone if I topped, but I think with all that has happened to these plants in the beginning, I'd hate to add extra stress, and knowing me, I may F* it up. Also, I'd be able to switch to flower sooner, as soon as they hit 12" or so. I have room if they triple in size, I'd just have to re fix my HPS which is right now fixed about 2'3 feet from the closet ceiling... if I move that up, I'm gravy for headroom.
