I need to go to Home Depot and get a few things,
but I wanted to look on there website and see if they had a HPS light.
I found a 50watt for only 35 bucks.
I Know thats not alot of watts but would it work for about 4 plants for flowering? i can get two or three.

Here is a link to it
Lithonia Lighting 50 Watt Bronze High Pressure Sodium Floodlight - TFS 50S 120 LPI M6 at The Home Depot
If you can get 2 or 3 why not get a 400w, the 50w will probably only be sufficient for the one plant imho.

Or Would a 70Watt Metal Halide fixture better,
I've Read that metal halide is better for flowering,
I have about $200 to spend right now.

Thanks.

Here is what i have now,

I went the home depot route. I got the 70 watt HPS with two fixtures for CFL. I bought 4 42 watt CFL, 2 warm and 2 cool white. Both put out around 2600 lumen's. The cool white I used for veg plus the HPS and the warm I used for flower plus the HPS. Since the CFL are cooler, I mounted them on the sides of the plant, and put the HPS hanging over the top.

My plant is about 45 inches tall at 7 weeks, 2 weeks into flowering. I expect it will grow another 8-12 inches by the time it is done.

All in all I spent about 150 bucks on lighting. But I am with the other guys, just go with a switchable MH/HPS ballast and a sweet reflector. Its made for the job, and at 400 watts you could probably put 4-6 plants under it, depending on your strain. You're going to go over your budget, so save up. It WILL be well worth it in the end. If you can't wait to save another 200, then you better ask yourself if you can wait 8-10 weeks for a plant to grow. It takes a lot of patients, and for good results needs to be done right. Thats my .02

P.S. The difference between the right way and the wrong way is going to be measured in grams and quality. With 6 plants we aren't talking a few grams either.

You need to do more than go to Home Depot to get a few things, you need to sit down and think about what is you want to do and whether your 'setup' can handle what you want to do.

It's all very well going out and buying a 400w HPS but can your grow space cope with the temperatures and ventilation a 400w will put out and require? Do you already have an extract fan ventilating your grow space and bringing in fresh co2? If not, forget getting a HPS anything until you've sorted ventilation out.

i have a good extract fan and a good intake fan,

i ordered the MH/HPS conversion light from htg
and for the co2 i have the yeast, sugar, and water thing,

i was thinking, could i go out and get a 20oz tank of co2 from a paintball store and put a gauge on it and use that insted of the way im using now?

My first grow as well. I went to Lowes, bought 2 t8 fl's (4ft) used those to start my grow. while I figured out my space / edsign /needs, etc. I just got my MH HPS combo from HTG supply and returned all the FL to Lowes! ha!
No prob doing it either. Now I will get some 2 ft'ers for my clost I'm building. worked out great. The others here are right, you really need to figure out what you want and what youve got to work with!

PS, I was really, really suprised at how Shrubby I got these six plants going on just these lamps to start! So far...lookin good!
