it wasn't actually the killing itself, it was the success, the "even though i have a fridge full of food, i still just fed the whole tribe for a day" feeling...there was no feeling of elation that the deer was dead, just that i had "won"....

i carry concealed, if a gun is pulled on me, you better not turn your eyes away for more than a second at a time...
although i'm not expecting to be participating in a showdown, i'm expecting more to hear gunfire from the next aisle over at walmart, or the grocery store...
i intend to exit the area as quickly as possible with my hand on my still holstered pistol, and not pull it unless the shit seems to be headed my way. thats a real good way to get killed by the cops coming for the guy who started firing. i'm not a cop, and i'm not a hero, i'm just an old man who intends to do as much as possible to make it to a very old death in a very comfortable bed

What a great strategy. Let the other guy get the drop on you and hope for a distraction.

I saw it happen a few times in the movies so it must be a real thing.

well dude, like you said, i'm not clint eastwood...but i have had some training. the only way to not let someone get "the drop" on you when anyone can be carrying concealed would be to walk around with your gun in your hand constantly, and that doesn't seem like a good plan to me. i'm trying to do what i can to protect myself and anyone with me that i can, in a responsible way.
you get all these other motherfuckers to quit carrying, and i'll be glad to put mine back in the desk drawer and leave it there

hence why I think the idea of "everybody carrying guns makes people safer" in anything other than grizzly wilderness is a childish fantasy.

i agree with you, i'd be happy to put mine back in the drawer...when everyone else does so too...i don't feel safer at all, i feel like everyone is going nuts...most people didn't go around armed in the 1800s when there were no laws about it at all

I don't care if you carry. I don't care if you believe it makes you safer. I'm just trying to keep it real.

For decades, Republicans suppressed research into gun violence because virtually all research finds the childish fantasy that guns make people safer is false. So, it's thin but here is what was found when data was analyzed to see if good men with guns actually do stop bad men with them:

*Guns are hardly ever used in self defense. This study , in which victims of violent crime were surveyed, 2/3 fought back in some manner, shouting, pushing, using a weapon, etc. A gun was used less than 2% of the time. So, carrying in case you need it to defend yourself, most times is just something people do to feel good. Not that there is anything wrong with that but be real.

*People who use a gun in self defense during an assault are more likely to get shot, injured or killed. This study, in which victims of assault were surveyed, the investigators found:

Association Between Gun Possession and Gun Assault
After we adjusted for confounding factors, individuals who were in possession of a gun were 4.46 (95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.16, 17.04) times more likely to be shot in an assault than those not in possession. Individuals who were in possession of a gun were also 4.23 (95% CI = 1.19, 15.13) times more likely to be fatally shot in an assault. In assaults where the victim had at least some chance to resist, individuals who were in possession of a gun were 5.45 (95% CI = 1.01, 29.92) times more likely to be shot.

Carry that gun all you want. Believe what you want. I'm just posting stuff to say that guns don't make people safer and probably make them less so especially when they are up against somebody assaulting them.

Well other than cougars (supposedly a few) we have all of those, plus very mean possums and I have never felt the need to carry a pistol. Although when I did bear hunt with a bow we always had a shotgun to use when tracking but in 20 years never had to use it, I’m a pretty good shot lol. We had rattlesnakes at one of our grows and they hid under the moist pails, there were 250 pails so it was a tad bit worrisome :o! Again never felt the need to kill one though :o!

Thank god for snake boots. Saved me a couple times in the woods..Planting... Have got alot of rattles thru the years...Kept in 2 cases

I basically quit 4-5 years ago because you have to get up too early. I do love a goose dinner and it’s a later start but still to lazy and all I do is jump in my boat lol.
