One looks ready

So, Back on the 13th I inoculated 4 small B.R.F. cakes (I still see that and read barf cakes, lol) and one looks ready but the other 3 are lagging behind. Would it hurt anything to just let it sit till the other 3 are fully colonized? Should I pull, soak, and chamber the one? Then add the other 3 what they're ready?

Yes, this is the first time I've tried growing fungus, all advice welcomed and considered.

So what did you end up doing? I haven't ever tried but I'm aware of ways people propagate fungi. I'd like to try one day.

Have you considered using multiple smaller tubs? You could go ahead and start the one that is ready in a smaller tub.

That is a consideration,

I've left them alone. The other 3 Only look like they need a day or two so, it looks like I'll be soaking for new year's eve and casing new year'sday.

There's no issues letting a jar sit a few extra days. Nothing will happen until the mycelium runs out of food which could be a few months in a jar.
So good call to just let them chill and spawn.

they make it looks so easy with the smaller tubs. no airholes, just mix it and close the lids and let it go.
Definitely worth learning shoebox/monotub bulk spawning. Bulk spawning in a shoebox/tub like that is easiest and will give you the best harvest sizes. I would think most anyone who switches from cakes to bulk never swaps back. Cakes are a fun project to try at least once though!

Professional mushroom farms essentially do the same thing as the shoebox just with bags in a climate controlled room instead, if that tells you anything towards it's value of learning.

Okay, i've gotta ask... Why are people still messing around with cakes? Why not just spawn to bulk? nothing could be easier.

@althor Incredibly easy! Keep it clean and it's easier than growing weed.
Not for me, lol. I was 0/2 on my first attempt. 1/2 on the second which colonized the bag ok but is taking it's sweet azz time (weeks) to get the fruiting chamber all colonized. I'm mildly optimistic it will eventually get there.

And I started a fifth bag as a backup that is starting to get white.

I don't think my house warm enough but I'll get it figured out sooner or later.

Every process takes a learning curve you'll get there! The biggest issues I see in bulk is moisture and temperature so focus on those factors and you'll get it down.

Try and fruit that 1 separately in something small..
Here i used a 2 liter coke bottle but a 1 gallon jug will work better..ive tried both, drill some holes for transpiration, like a small shot gun fruit chamber…

I added a couple more so you can have an idea

I'm honestly liking this method better than my martha tent ATM. It's how I started, and a lot less hassle

Agreed, this is one of the easiest teks I have seen.

when the caps fully open up. They will do the job as they are right now, but they grow until the cap is fully opened.

So I was watching another grower and was surprised by how fast they went from an odd bump to a mushroom. The lady pic was on the 11th and tonight(2 days later). So when do I harvest and dry?
Harvest right before the veil breaks as psilocybin content slows down to a halt once the cap opens up, so you’re getting more weight but less potency once the caps fully open. In your case I would harvest now ...this is a good example of when to harvest
