I just read Russia said a summit between Putin and Biden (as turns out was the result of that call Putin had with Macron), is “premature”. Putin’s definitely stalling.

EU wants sanctions, but then they don’t. The unelected President of the European Commission, Ursula, outlined sanctions in case Russia does invade Ukraine. Russia would be cut off from financial markets and would no longer be able to import any essential goods from the EU. This would be devastating for the average Russian. Because of the impact it would have (on both sides) Ursula doesn’t want to go ahead with sanctions unless Russia goes ahead with the invasion.

Economic sanctions. Putin isn't going to be affected by them. The people of Russia will be affected, especially the poor and especially elderly whose pensions are a pittance after inflation. Economic sanctions are a nuclear option that hits civilians the hardest. Putin and his oligarchs will be fine.
Yet I‘d like to see them implemented regardless. Yes it will affect especially the poor and eldery but right now it affects our own poor-ish and lots of eldery. Whether it’s their trolling, election meddling, their agression, or their evil money schemes, it’s bad business for the rest of us. I’m thinking sanction them so hard they no longer have the ability to influence the global economy except for in a positive way. It would take a few years adapting after removing this weak and unstable link, Russia, but we can handle that easily. Even if Russia would have fair elections Putin would still be a very popular candidate, possibly even win. Seems overdue we show them there are consequences to tolerating or even voting for such a dick.

Ugh I missed the beginning of the show while typing this… ah well…

Its winter. Northern Europe is scared to death Putin will cut them off of their precious natural gas. I'd argue in the 90s, it was pretty obvious putin was a gangster, yet northern europe tolerated everything because of that sweet, sweet natural gas honey.

The good news is, Historically, strong arm tactics almost inevitably backfire as the affected countries search out alternatives. This is happening now.

I have always liked unnatural gas.

Of course the talks are stalled, Putin just invaded Ukraine and that was what Biden said would end that possibility.

Calling them 'peacekeeping' troops is just trolling.

wonder how long it will be before we're at war to make people stop using the poisons they're killing the entire world with?
what good does it do if America goes totally green (which is a long time coming) if china and India and w/e else just continues to pump
millions of tons of toxins and green house gases into the atmosphere we all share?
China is really starting to go green, they're very serious about it, I'm pleasantly surprised. And they might switch to green much faster than you think. If only they could sort out the corruption ...India, on the other hand... I don't think so. But I admit I'm biased and have prejudices against the country, don't know how they dealt with covid even.

china is putting on a good show, i'll pass judgement in a few years, if they keep it up, good for them, and good for us...if not, well, there are only a few options, and none of them are good...the best would be to try to sanction them to death, but they have a lot of resources to draw on, and a lot of markets to use that we have little influence over
India, i'm not so sure about...they don't seem to give a flying fuck about pollution at all. they are THE most polluted nation on the planet, and have 22 of the 30 worst polluted cities on earth...they release raw untreated sewage into their rivers, along with industrial waste and agricultural runoff, millions of households burn wood or dung to heat and cook, they burn garbage that could be turned into compost, and they have a lot of vehicles, many of which are small engines, like scooters and motorcycles, which are actually way worse polluters than cars and light trucks are....
